In order to answer this one, let's compare it to it's most important opponent: Islam. Christians state that it was started by a supernatural being who put aside his ultimate power and authority over everything and came to this earth to live in poverty in a country that was so miserable, and poor, and under tyrannical rule: Rome under Caesar. Jesus grew up, made some apostles and taught them, gained popularity with the people all throughout Israel as a remarkable teacher and then died on a cross because someone sold his life to the authorities for money, and then Jesus spent three days in hell while he never did anything wrong on earth. So he went from having authority in heaven, to suffering in hell, being punished for things he didn't do, but things that we've done, things that you've done, things that I've done, so that we can have hope to go to heaven. So Christianity is about extreme love and compassion over everyone, regardless of race, gender, what the people have done, because God created them too. Islam is different. Islam is widely known by Muslims to be created by a man named Muhammed some time after Christianity. The main belief here is that if you follow Allah, and if your good outways your bad, then you can get into their version of heaven. There are also other things you can do to get into this heaven. You can also kill innocent Christian children, Jews, and everyone else who opposes Islam. You can also walk around a giant man-made building to receive your reward from Allah. Islam actually started with ravaging villages of those who didn't believe in Islam, so the original Muslims were a group of thugs who killed people to spread their beliefs. The main distinction between these religions are that Christianity is about love, while Islam also promotes love, but Muslims have a duty to kill those who don't believe. The Crusades is a backwards picture of this though, because the Christians of England and France were on the offensive, but they were there to conquer the Middle East, and for that God made them unsuccessful. There are other religions that Christianity relates to also. It relates very much with Judaism. The main distinction between Christians and Jews is that the Jews believe in the Old Testament laws and are still waiting for Christ to come. Christians believe that he has already come, so they don't follow those laws anymore. (Christ took care of those laws) Hinduism is very different from all of these. The main belief behind this is to choose your way of life, and worship the gods that your lifestyle fits.
