If Jesus died for everyone's sins why do some people still go to hell?

Jesus died on the cross making a way for us to go to heaven. He said that whosoever believes in me shall have eternal life. The people who die and go to hell are the people who were given chances to accept Jesus, instead they wanted to live for this world. God gives us this free gift of salvation, we just have to reach out with our hand and accept it.

First of all, EVERYONE who dies goes to the grave: Hell, Hades, Sheol. There is no Fiery Hell. This is a pagan tradition used to keep the people in line.

For instance: Ecclesiastes 9:10 says: "All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She′ol, the place to which you are going".

I can assure you that even Hell itself will be done away with in the near future: At Revelation 20:13,14 we are assured: "And the sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Ha′des gave up those dead in them, and they were judged individually according to their deeds. And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire".

Now if Hell, Hades, or Sheol were a literal place of fiery torment, how could they be burned in a literal lake of fire?

This is the purpose of the resurrection. Hell, Hades, Sheol all will be emptied and as the Apostle Paul said: "And I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous".

A Christian answer would be: Jesus died for the sins of those who accept Him as their lord and savior. When they say that He died for everyone's sins, it just means that everyone has the chance for eternal life but it does not mean that everyone goes to heaven just because Jesus chose to die for our sins. Some people still go to Hell because they choose to live a false life without accepting Jesus to be a part of it. My answer: Imagine that life is like a thousand trains running on one track, straight to heaven. Jesus died for the sins of all of the people riding on all of the trains but for some reason, some of the people choose to jump off and take their chances in the countryside the train is traveling through. Those people will not be able to get back on the train they were riding but can jump back on another train when it comes along. What happens to these people if they die before getting back on another train? Christians would say that these people would go to Hell. I do not believe that there is a place called Hell where bodies are continually burned for sins. It would not be possible for us to feel that kind of pain when we no longer have a physical body. Hell is actually, life without the presence of God. And if God is "all things good", then Hell would be "all things bad".

2.Augustine of Hippo taught that original sin was transmitted through the concupiscence (roughly, lust) that accompanied sexual reproduction, weakening the will and making humanity a massa damnata (mass of perdition, condemned crowd). In Augustine's view (termed "Realism"), all of humanity was really present in Adam when he sinned, and therefore all have sinned.

Everyone is still born a sinner because of Adam's sin:-

1).God created the first man Adam from the dust of the ground which God had just created:-Gen 2:7 KJV And the LORD God formed man ofthe dust of the ground, ...

2).God then created his wife Eve not from the dust of the ground like Adam but from part of Adam:-

Gen 2:20-23 KJV ... but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. [v. 21] And the LORD God ... took one of [Adam's] ribs,... [v. 22] And ...made he a woman, .. [v. 23] And Adam said, This isnow bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

3). Everyone is ultimately descended from Eve: she is the first mother of everyone who has ever been born:-Gen 3:20 KJV And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

4).Disobedience is sin:-

5). God warned Adam that the penalty for disobedience [aka sin] was death, and if he disobeyed he would die:-

6).By eating what they were told not to, Adam and Eve disobeyed God:-

It's really your fault because] the woman whom you provided for me gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate some of it." 7).And therefore Adam would (eventually) die:-

Gen 5:5 Adam lived a total of 930 years and then died.

8).Even if only one person sins everybody is still judged:-

Jos 22:20 NET When Achan son of Zerah disobeyed the command about the city's riches, the entire Israelite community was judged, though only one man had sinned. He most certainly died for his sin!

9).This punishment for Adam's sin [ie death] was passed on to all of Adam's descendants:- Rom 5:12-14 NET [v. 12]So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all [have] sinned - [v. 13] for before the law was given [ie to Moses], sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin when there is no law. This communal penalty of death levied on everyone because Adam and Eve sinned by eating an apple (or whatever it was) when many people wouldn't have even seen an apple in their lives may seem harsh and unfair, but think of it as Adam and Eve each having a gene in their DNA of a fatal disease called 'SIN' which is then passed on to all their descendants. This means that everyone who was ever born will die because they are also descended from Adam and Eve. If either the father or the mother has a particular defective gene in their DNA then there is a 50% chance of it being passed on to their children, whereas if both parents have it then 100% of their children will also have it. The children have inherited a fatal disease through no fault of their own: they may deny they have it, or not face up to it, but they will still die nevertheless. Everybody is born a sinner, and there is nothing they can do about it.

12). No man can do anything about this, but there is Someone who can remove this death penalty and make people alive: Jesus Christ:-1Co 15:21-24 NET For since death came through a man [ie Adam], the resurrection of the dead also came through a man [ie Jesus Christ]. [v. 22] For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. [v. 23] But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; then when Christ comes, those who belong to him.

13). Jesus Christ is the Creator of every single thing (which includes Adam and Eve) so this means Jesus IS GOD:-

Should the potter [ie God] be regarded as clay ?

Should the thing made say about its maker [ie God], "He didn't make me"?

16). We the [created] have no right to argue with God [our Creator]:-

Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands? 17). The Creator is our Maker and if you make something you can do whatever you like with it:-

Rom 9:21 Has the potter no right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for special use and another for ordinary use?

18). Our Creator died for sinful created mankind:-Rom 5: 8 NET [v. 8] But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

19). This atoning death of the Creator for His creation made mankind be seen as righteous and acceptable to God:-

22).Christ is the 2nd Adam and removed the penalty of death caused by the sin of the 1st Adam:-

You sin because you live in a sinful world. You have to repent of your sins so Jesus can take them away. If we trust in him and have a personal relationship with Him then he takes your sin away so you can spend eternal life with Him in heaven.
