The teachings of Islam are comprised of both faith and duty. In the Muslim community "Tawhid" defines all that a man should believe. The Muslims believe in a thing called the six articles of faith. The six articles of faith are articles that Muslims believe in, but are not the complete pillars or complete foundation of Islam.
Tawhid means oneness of God", that there is only one God, not many, and that one God is the creator of the heavens above, the earth below, and all in between. The basic belief of Muslims lies in the "five pillars" of Islam. These 5 are the foundation of the religion, and they are as follows:
1. Belief in one God. This includes God's angels, his books of revelation, the prophets chosen and sent by God, and life after death(judgment day)
2. Prayer - at least 5 times a day
3. Charity - this is in the broad sense, not just money, but it could be deeds, or giving of time to help others.
4. Fasting - for Muslims this is mainly done for 30 days during the Holy Month of Ramadan that occurs every year
5. Hajj - this is the obligated once in a life time visit to the Holy City of Mecca in Saudia Arabia and to participate in the religious rituals as prescribed by God.
1- there is no God but Allah
2- Muhamamd (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah
