Islam is mainly based on five pillars. The first and most important is the belief in One God: Allah Almighty, and that Muhammad (PBUH) is His last messenger. Allah has no partner, parent or children. He is the Sole Creator and Cherisher of the universe. This belief is known as 'Shahadah'. The second pillar is 'Salah' (Namaz/Prayer). Muslims have been subscribed to pray five times a day. This involves various steps. According to the Prophet (PBUH), prayer is what distinguishes between a believer and non-believer. Namaz is obligatory upon every Muslim after reaching a mature age. The third pillar of Islam is 'Sawm' (Fasting). In the month of Ramadan, it is compulsary for every mature and healthy Muslim to fast from daybreak till sunset. Sick and old people are exempted from the fasts. The fourth pillar of Islam is 'Zakat' (Charity). It is believed that Zakat purifies a person's wealth. It is obligatory for every affording Muslim to pay a certain amount of his savings in the way of Allah. There are certain conditions for the payment of Zakat. The fifth and last pillar of Islam is 'Hajj' (Pilgrimage). Its is due on every healthy and affording Muslim to perform this Pilgrimage to Makkah at least once in his/her lifetime. These beliefs make the five pillars of Islam. They are the basis of all Muslim beliefs. This should answer your question. If you need any more details, please feel free to ask.
