one of them is Christianity and the other is Islam
Arthur Jeffery writes in "The Foreign Vocabulary of the Quran", in page 1 of the introduction:
"One of the distinct impressions gleaned from a first perusal of the Quran, is that of the amount of material which is borrowed from the religions that were active in Arabia at the time when the Quran was in process of formation. It is plain that Muhammad drew his inspiration not from the religious life and experiences of his own land and his own people, but from the great monotheistic religions which were pressing down into Arabia in his day." Charles Torrey in "The Jewish Foundation of Islam", writes on page 43: "It was at home, not abroad, that the Muhammad received the Biblical and Haggadic narratives which occupy so large a part of the Koran."
Islam and Judaism are two distinct monotheistic religions that share part of their history.
Judaism and Christianity.
Monotheism is not inherently superior to polytheism or other forms of religion, but Islam is arguably more monotheistic than is Christianity. Since Judaism does not grant Satan the autonomy that Islam and Christianity do, Judaism could be considered even more monotheistic than the other two religions.
The main religions are Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The first two are polytheistic and the last three are monotheistic. Judaism, Christianity and Islam all have major divisions and sects. I don't know if the same could be said about Buddhism and Hinduism as I have not studied them.
I'm no scholar, so I can't say whether or not Prophet Muhammad knew a lot about the monotheistic faiths of his time, or was "familiar" with them. I can say he was at least aware of the only two monotheistic religions around, Judaism and Christianity, just as Jesus was aware of the only monotheistic religion of his time, Judaism.
There are two simple descriptions:1. They are all Abrahamic religions as they trace their roots to Abraham, the father of the Jewish nation.2. They are monotheistic - ie, those who adhere to the religions woorship only one God, whether it is HaShem (Judaism), Allah (Islam) or The Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Christianity).
Christianity and Islam. __________________________________________________________ Any religion may be influenced by another religion if it is a man developed religion and not same God religion. The three religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam are God religions created by same God. Hence it is logic to find common features in the three religions; mainly monotheism. Accordingly, it is hard to believe that any religion got influenced by another religion. Otherwise, how the three religion are same God religions and not man made religions.
Judaism and Christianity, the two religions that are actually from God.
