In many respects, Islam is similar to Christianity- it is a monotheistic faith, with one God and one prophet. For all the violence and intolerance of the Islamic fundamentalists, true Islam teaches respect for others, kindness and charity to the unfortunate, purity of heart and soul, faith in Allah to help you even in your darkest moments, and a rejection of greed, selfishness and cruelty. Like Christians, true Muslims seek to attain a higher spiritual awareness through prayer, meditation and following the teachings of The Koran, and to attempt to be good people without malice, envy or hypocrisy. However, there are important differences as well- daily acts of worship in Islam are deemed as far more essential, with prayers carried out 5 times a day preceeded by ritual washing. Islam is much more of a 'way of life' than Christianity, with one's own individual life being structured around the religious rituals, and the local mosque serving as a communal meeting place and the focus of all the affairs of the local Muslim community. Early Christianity was like this, and some forms of Catholicism remain so to this day. Islam is also far less tolerant of attempts by followers of other religions to make converts from Islam to their own faiths. The Islamic faith tolerates other religions, but does not regard them as truly legitimate, believing that only Muslims attain salvation in the afterlife (note that this is no different from what Catholics believe). It also acknowledges that the leading figures in other faiths were important holy men (such as Christ). However, the Prophet Mohammed taught that attempts by other religions to win converts from Islam should be resisted by all means necessary, including violence if all else fails.

Who do muslims believe jesus christ was?

The Muslims believe in all the holy Prophets (May peace be upon them all). They do believe in Hazrat Jesus Christ (AS) a Prophet. He is also called by the Name of Messiah in the holy Qur'an. But the Muslims don't believe him the SON of Almighty God. The Muslims consider it the Greatest, Severest and Unpardonable sin to associate parents, of-spring, or Associate with Almighty God. He is the Sole Creator, Sustainer, Provider and Ruler of all the creation.
