There is no extremism in Hinduism per se. the term Hindu is arabic for sindhu and till 18th century it was used by Arabs to designate people living beyond river Indus(Sindhu). More appropriate name perhaps would be vedic or sanatan Dharm. The" Hindu " doctrine has roots in more than one sources unlike Christianity or Islam which are base on one historic personality.. It is an evolution and merging of various schools of philosophy prevalent at various times.

The underlying principle is that of personal spiritual liberation rather than subjugation to a particular God or philosophy. It allows one to achieve this goal in which ever way he/she considers fit as long as it adheres to universal human principles The Hindu doctrine is one that best described by " Ekam sat viprah bahudha vadanti" the learned one speak of god as one and many. a shaloke from Rig veda. the concept of violence to express once belief is inherently alien to Hindu.

What one read about in media and passionately discussed,is result of sociopolitical out come where one group of people are pitted against other to justify political motives or one one community suffers from perpetual sense of insecurity and delusion of prosecution fanned by its religious leaders.
