● Do not conclude that the person's beliefs are the same as those of all other Buddhists. Buddhist teachings are vague and the interpretation varies from one person to another. Japanese Buddhism is quite different from the Buddhism of Southeast Asia. Individuals, too, differ as to their viewpoint. In general, however, the following points may be helpful: (1) Buddhism does not recognize an external God, a personal Creator. But many Buddhists worship images and relics of Buddha. (2) Siddhartha Gautama, who was given the title Buddha, came to be viewed as the religious ideal of his followers, to be imitated by them. He encouraged gaining enlightenment by studying mankind from a human standpoint, also severing the roots of suffering by controlling the mind so as to eliminate all earthly desire. He taught that in this way one might attain to Nirvana, free from the rebirths of transmigration. (3) Buddhists worship their ancestors, because they view these as the source of their life.

In Tibet, the Buddhist leaders, called lamas, also led the government. When religious leaders head government, it is called a theocracy (thee-AH-kruh-see). The Dalai Lama was the lama who headed the government, and the Panchen Lama was the lama who led the religion. Among the unique aspects of Tibetan Buddhism are the teachings of the bardos, or in-between states, including the state between death and the next rebirth. Other bardos are the bardo of birth, the dream state, and the state of meditation.

The terma tradition is another unique aspect of Tibetan Buddhism. Terma ('treasures') are teachings hidden in secret places by a Buddha for discovery by future generations. These could be actual texts or sacred objects (e.g., a statue) hidden in caves, or they could be 'mind terma,' teachings transmitted mentally, and received through meditation by an advanced practitioner called a terton. The great Indian teacher who brought Buddhism to Tibet, Padmasambhava, was said to have concealed terma in 108 places. The Bardo Thodol, the so-called Tibetan Book of the Dead, is one of his terma.

One of the unique practices in Tibetan Buddhism is tummo, or 'inner heat.' It is a yogic practice that has the effect of raising the temperature of the body. Though that is not the goal of the practice, it must have come in quite handy for Tibetan monks as they sat meditating in the snow of the Himalayas!

Buddhism allows followers to test the results for themselves using their direct experience. In the Kalama Sutta, Anguttara Nikaya, Sutta Pitaka, states-

"So, as I said, Kalamas: 'Don't go by reports, by legends, by traditions, by scripture, by logical conjecture, by inference, by analogies, by agreement through pondering views, by probability, or by the thought, "This contemplative is our teacher." When you know for yourselves that, "These qualities are unskillful; these qualities are blameworthy; these qualities are criticized by the wise; these qualities, when adopted & carried out, lead to harm & to suffering" - then you should abandon them.' Thus was it said. And in reference to this was it said. "Now, Kalamas, don't go by reports, by legends, by traditions, by scripture, by logical conjecture, by inference, by analogies, by agreement through pondering views, by probability, or by the thought, 'This contemplative is our teacher.' When you know for yourselves that, 'These qualities are skillful; these qualities are blameless; these qualities are praised by the wise; these qualities, when adopted & carried out, lead to welfare & to happiness' - then you should enter & remain in them."

This isn't to say that we should not even bother considering what a scripture says, things a teacher says, logic, or inference. But we should not rely on these things as a sole means of determining truth.

I think there are a few; including

1) I beleive it is the only religion that was completely designed by man and not

said that came from a God or from a God inspired vision.

2) Buddhism is not dogmatic. That is; the Buddha says that we should not take

what he said as absolute truth just because he said it. We should try it out for

ourselves and if it does not work, reject it.

3) Buddhism is also not anti-science. The Buddha told us if something is found to

contradict his teachings then science wins. So far, no one has been ale to

disprove anything The Buddha taught.

4) The goal of Buddhism is not salvation by a God but enlightenment of one's

own mind.

Enlightenment here on earth. Does not require Blind faith , applicable to people of the world without need to change one's beliefs, the teachings are verifiable here and now through direct personal experience via meditation, devotion to truth and spirit of free inquiry.

This is a relative question so I can only really answer from my own point of view. No matter where you are and what your conditions are, Buddhism provides you with a path that will enable you to achieve permanent happiness, you ca start the journey now and follow in the footsteps of the Buddha.

Hinduism is a bit different from Buddhism. Hinduism worships many gods and goddess. while in Buddhism there is no worshiping to God. Also Buddhism forbids violence. while Hinduism permits violence when Dharma is in danger. Hinduism was never found by man while Buddhism was found by Lord Buddha or Siddhartha.
