What is the Muslims' view of other religions?

The final Prophet, The Prophet of Islam, hazret Muhammad (salalahu alayhi WA salaam), taught His people, that we mustrespect people of other religions, as, they was the word of God before He was sent to guide the whole of mankind. Unfortunately, time took is toll, and some people, and the books of the other Prophets (alayhimus salaam), and they are no longer in there original form, which is why The Prophet (salalahu alayhi WA salaam) was sent down, to guide the people for the last time, and Allah subuhanu WA ta'ala, said He would guard the Holy Qu'ran and stop it from being altered.

Muslims claim to respect other prophets named in the Qur'an, which includes Noah, Christ and Moses among others. According to the Qur'an, Muslims are to respect and treat as equal their fellow believers known as "People of the Book" (i.e., Christians and Jews). There are millions of contemporary Muslims who still live by this rule. There are also a large number of Muslims, as frequently evidenced by today's news, who no longer seem to live by this rule.

Muslims, as followers of Islam, for being followers of the last religion, are commanded to believe in all God prophets and in all God holy books and to accept and respect all other religions, cultures, and races. Quran says (Meaning English translation):

• "There is no compulsion in religion..."

(Quran, Chapter 2, Verse 256)

This statement above is supported by another Quran saying (with meaning English translation):

"...If God had willed, He would have made you all in one nation and one religion), but that He (God) left you in different religions to compete in good deeds and society benefits. The return of all of you is to God; then He (God) will inform you about that in which youdiffer"(Quran, Chapter 5, Verse 48)

The above Quran sayings confirms the following:

1. Islam call for all mankind, and not only for Muslims, is to live in harmony and peace and cooperative way of living .

2. No discrimination on basis of religion, race, culture, color, ...etc. The most honorable of mankind with God is the pious. The pious is the one who have faith in God, do good deeds for the benefit of his society, and is thoughtful in God creations and glory.

3. Muslims believe in all his prophets (including Noah, Abraham, ..., Moses,..., Jesus, and Mohamed Peace upon them all), angels, all holy books (including the Torah and Bible), the day of Judgment, and destiny.

In addition, Muslims recognize that the holy books are God revelation to His prophets and they believe that the holy books are similar in:

• calling for the same basic morals that are important for people to adopt to live in peace, harmony, and love in communities with different faiths and cultures. Examples of such morals are don't kill (without right or authority), don't steal money or others property, don't lei, don't cheat, ... etc.,

• calling for worship of one and only one God (although in The Bible only one is believed in but considered of Trinity nature) ,

• believing in day of judgment and after death life,

• believing in angel, and

• believing in God prophets (although not all of them are believed in by the Bible and/or the Torah)

Muslims are, and should be per religion requirements, an integral and active part in any community they belonging to even if they are a minority in this community. The Muslim is required to be everywhere considering the both wings of Islam religion; the first wing is to keep performing the ritual worships and the second wing is to keep performing good deeds to the benefit of himself, family, community, and mankind. As no bird can fly conveniently with only one wing or with one wing weaker than the other, Muslim can't be welcomed in the Heavens unless he is keeping good balance of the two Islam wings.

One may claim if Muslims respect and accepts all religions then why a Muslim woman can not be married with a Christian or Jewish man. The answer is very simple and logic.

In Islam practice, the husband prime responsibility is to cover the family expenses even if his wife works and even if she is earning more money than the husband. In addition, Muslims have faith in the holy books (including Torah and Bible), and in both religions of Judaism and Christianity, and all prophets (including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus) while Jews and Christians do not have faith in Islam, in Quran, and in prophet Mohamed.

So, it is logic if husband is Muslim to accept for his Christian or Jewish wife to practice her ritual worships, social activities, and clothing according to her Christian or Jewish religion. However, if the husband is Christian or Jewish he may not accept his Muslim wife to practice her ritual worships, social activities, and clothing according to her Islam religion.

That is why a Muslim man can marry a Christian or Jewish woman while a Muslim woman can not marry a Christian or Jewish man.

• In the early days of Islam, Muslims were instrumental in helping to safeguard the distinctive traditions of the Christian Coptic Church in Egypt from the oppressive practices of the dominant Church of Rome.

• Similarly, Muslim Turks are credited in Islamic history with safeguarding eastern European Protestants and Eastern Orthodox Christians alike from pressure and persecution exerted by the Church of Rome.

• The "golden age" of Jewish religious scholarship in pre-medieval Spain was achieved in an environment of religious freedom supported by the dominant Muslim society.

• In many Arab, Middle Eastern and Asian countries, religious minorities -- especially Jews, Christians and Hindus -- have flourished under Muslim rule and, thus protected, their ancient places of worship have survived to this day.

  Everyone's God-given human dignity must be respected, regardless of their religion, race, ethnic origin, gender, or social status (17:70). Because everyone is created by God Almighty, the Maker of All, humans must treat one another with full honour, respect and loving-kindness.

Islam generally holds that Judaism and Christianity are acceptable religions, even though Islam is preferred, since those two religions came out of the same Divine Revelations that form the core of Islam. Other henotheistic religions, such as Zoroastrianism and the various Arabian henotheistic faiths were looked upon with general derision, because they accepted weaker partners of God, but somewhat tolerated because there were just too many of them to kill. Polytheistic or nontheistic faiths such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, etc. are seen as completely incorrect and unacceptable religions since they reject the idea that God is one.

Islam does not have a clear perspective on Sikhism and the Post-Islamic religions. In the case of Sikhism, Islamic scholarship is not entirely certain as to whether Sikhism is close enough to Islam to be considered something similar to Judaism and Christianity or whether it is closer to Hinduism and should be condemned. Concerning the Post-Islamic religions, Islamic scholarship typically does not recognize the existence of such religions because they believe that doing so would indicate that they believe that Mohammed was not the final prophet. However, the attitudes that Islamic Scholars have taken informally with respect to Post-Islamic religions like Ahmadiyya, Alawites, Baha'i, Yazdanism, and others show a general rejection of the validity of those religions because they assert that Islam can be expanded or improved on.
