The notion of 'sin' in old days was closely related to serious diseases and even weaknesses. In fact, before Jesus (and perhaps till our days for some people) being a person not normal or not healthy was seen as a sinner or bearing the sins of his parents. This has helped them explain why this person has to live with weaknesses not usually found among the majority.

So it is not surprising to know that almost all who were called as sinners and met Jesus were not healthy persons.

But with time and with the progress of medicine, the connection between being ill or weak and being sinful has been totally broken, though gradually and perhaps not for all people around the world.

Based on this old view of sin, the original sin should be a sort of a weakness that all newcomers into life have them in common. Could anyone guess it?

Despite that all babies are armed with an intelligent system which will show itself as they get older, they all start their life by being ignorant. Being ignorant is indeed a real weakness which each person tries his best to cure, by searching for good and true knowledge. In this respect, Jesus saved me from 'the original sin' by showing me through his sayings and teachings all the logical answers I was looking for about what are important to know in life and myself.

Satan sinned first... in the beginning before man was created. He lusted after God's throne over the universe and attempted to take it from Him. He lied to the angels under his authority and convinced them to join him in his rebellion:

"...thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven ['I will go to heaven'; sound familiar?], I will exalt my throne above the stars [angels] of God... I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH." (Isa.14:13-14)

That was the "original sin." Lucifer [Satan] FATHERED lust, lying, murder, profaning God's name, etc... and "chose to worship himself above God."

This paradox may in fact be well represented by the story of Adam and Eve, where they lost contact with God, and his wisdom by taking of 'truths from a tree of knowledge'.

If one examines what happened in the story. Adam and Eve took of this fruit. God comes asking 'where they are'. Adam responds, "we knew we were naked and hid". God knows something is wrong, and asks Adam, "Did you take of the tree of knowledge". Why does God know this?

Well first of all God knows where Adam and Eve are. Adam answers back with a truth, "we knew we were naked". This was true, but this truth is followed by an illogical conclusion, "we hid". How do you hide from God ?

So God knew something was seriously wrong, he is God, and he tests Adam by asking a question, and Adam fails to give God the correct answer.

I believe the concept of 'original sin' is simply a man-made attempt to explain the numerous passages in Scripture that speaks of sin or lawlessness (1 John 3-4).

IMO, we are not born into sin but we certainly have a propensity to it - and all will fall short and sin. The Bible explains we humans are constantly 'bombarded' by the god of this world to sin and reap the punishment of sin. Without God's Holy Spirit guiding each of us, we all will fall short as well:

A well known saying by Jesus in the Scripture is, 'the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak,' (Matthew 26:41). Therefore, as Paul tells us, we must first learn God's way of discernment (Hebrews 5:14).

It is an important concept to try to grasp, even though it is not completely understandable by a limited human intelligence. Like any other evil, sin is nothing. Sin is not a positive force, in the seminary they used to explain it as a shadow was to light. If the light from the sun was good, then, if you are standing there and you turn away from the sun you see a shadow. But the shadow is not something, instead, it is the absence of something, it is the absence of light. In the case of evil, it is the absence of a good that should be there. Some things are physical evils, say you are born without sight or hearing or some other sense that you should normally have as a human being. In the same way original justice when lost by our first parents through sin is no longer there and cannot be passed on to us. The concept of 'original sin' is actually a pre-Christian concept. Christianity only began after Christ Jesus died and was resurrected. The original sin was long before that. It happened in the Garden of Eden before any of mankind was even born.

Adam & Eve were direct creations by Jehovah God. God created them as perfect human children of his. They were created with 'free will'. Yet they were also created 'in God's image'. One must understand both these concepts first. When mankind was created, they were not granted 'immortality'. They were merely given 'existence' without a pre-determined life-span to limit their existence.

Their life-span would be hinged to their obedienceto their Maker. Disobedience of any sort would be considered 'sin'. Never before in all Universal History of perhaps billions of years had anyone (angels) ever disobeyed their Maker. They all retained their being 'in God's image'.

Then, all of a sudden, 3 of God's creations disobeyed God; they sinned. (Satan, Adam, Eve). The rest of mankind are offspring of Adam & Eve, born after the original sin.

The original sin is simply: Disobedience to the Creator.

At that point, Adam really SOLD mankind out from under God. Mankind was sold into slavery of sin, and it's accompanying consequences of: sickness, old age, and finally death.

But Jehovah God made arrangements for the undoing of sin & death. Again, it will involve 'obedience'. Christ Jesus is the Chief Agent of everlasting life being brought back to mankind. This is not about living in heaven; it's about regaining what we originally lost, life on earth.
