Jesus was talking to the Pharisee, Nicodemus. It wasn't about "turning into a spirit," but being reborn of or by the Holy Spirit.

"...Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Mavel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." (John 3:5-7)

Yet, we marvel anyway... and the finite human mind can't conceive of such a thing. We can't imagine "not being flesh and blood - the only existence we've ever known.

Nevertheless, The Bible speaks of a day when "man shall be changed into some kind of spirit composition"... whatever that may entail.

So far, Jesus is the only human to have acheived that change when His Father raised Him from the dead - IMMORTAL.

Everyone else throughout history who were revived from death, returned to life "still mortal"... corruptible... and later returned to that state that's "appointed to us all" (Heb.9:27).

Apart from Jesus Christ... all the other generations of man await their return to life... when their "change" will come.

"If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, TILL MY CHANGE COME." (Job 14:14)

"...Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but WE SHALL ALL BE CHANGED, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump (the time of Jesus' prophesied return - Matt.24:31): for the Trumpet shall sound, and the dead SHALL BE RAISED INCORRUPTIBLE, and WE SHALL BE CHANGED. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on IMMORTALITY..." (I Cor.15:51-53).

Jesus Christ was raised from the dead - immortal. He "put on" immortality... whatever that may be.

And the Bible tells us that one day "WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM":

"... for our conversation (citizenship) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: WHO SHALL CHANGE OUR VILE BODY, that it MAY BE FASHIONED LIKE UNTO HIS GLORIOUS BODY, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself." (Philipp.3:20-21)

"...now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM; for we shall see Him as He is." (I John 3:2)

The word for "born" Jesus used for Nicodemus was "gennao"... which incorporates the entire "birth process" and not just "parurition," the birth.

Those who have been "begotten" of God (that is, "conceived"... another stage of "gennao") have not yet acheived "parturition" in this spiritual birth process. Just as a "conceived" human child still in the womb is still called the man's child... so, are those conceived by the Father in heaven His children, though not yet fully developed and nourished by the Bread of Life, His Word, the Bible.

But, because Jesus hasn't yet returned, and the children of God haven't yet reached "parturition"... they don't know what they SHALL look like, what they shall be... or truly understand the nature of the "spirit composition" they shall "put on" when they are finally "delivered."
