There are many copies of the Tipitika throughout the world. So it is kept in many places.

Orginally, the Tipitika was not written down, but was recited at large gatherings of Buddhist monks called Councils. Several hundred years after the Buddha, it was first written down on palm leaves at Alu Vihare temple in Sri Lanka. Copies were made from that.
