I will give you three points of view on this, and will allow you to decide who to believe.
P.O.V. #1(American/Western Answer)- The Syrian people are oppressed by their dictator Bashar al-Assad. Assad does not allow people to exercise the freedom of speech and when protestors started having riots about this problem he would order police and military forces to slaughter them.
P.O.V. #2(Syrian Govt./Russian Govt. Answer)- Syria has been victimized by Islamic terrorists from Afghanistan, including Al Qaeda, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Chechnya, and Africa. These terrorists are supported by countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Britain, and the U.S. These supposed protestors are in fact terrorists. The civilians who were supposedly targeted by the Syrian govt. were actually victims of the Free Syrian Army, who then blamed it on the Syrian Govt.
P.O.V. #3(My pov as a syrian christian)- Yes the Syrian Govt. is a Dictatorship. A Secular dictatorship. One that does not persecute based on religion. A dictatorship has to sacrifice basic human rights for peace and order. That being said I believe these protestors are a mix of Syrian Sunni and other foreigners(including Al Qaeda). However I believe that their intentions are not to guarantee human rights for themselves, because they are jihadis. They intend to install a sharia law, and to do that they must take the power away from the Alawite and Christian minorities. I support Assad because if these Sunni jihadis took power churches would be outlawed, Christians and Alawites would be massacred, and Syria would be another Saudi Arabia. Sunni's have a track record probably just as bad as the Nazis killing a total of 4 million Armenian christians, Greek christians, Syrian christians, and Chaldean christians. And that was just the Turks. I could go on but I won't. In the end I support Assad because he keeps order, keeps the people who call my people infidels from killing me.
