According to legend, St. Andrew apppeared to the Irish monk Columba in a dream, and told him to bring the the gospel message to the the pagan Pictish people of Scotland.
Columba and several other monks established the first monastery in Scotland, in the name of St. Andrew, which became the base for he mission that eventually converted all of Scotland to Christianity.
