Being pagan is only considered sinful by alternative religions to paganism. We pagans, ourselves don't see it as being a sin to be pagan. Just like Catholics don't believe that Catholicism is sinful or Muslims thinking being Muslim is sinful. It's all a point of personal reference based on your own beliefs.
However the reason Christians believe paganism is a sin is because of what the pope said back in the 1400s. In order to convert the majority of people (who where at that time pagan) to the Christian faith, they started to pervert the beliefs of the pagan people. Examples of which included, the pagan god becoming the Christian devil, casting spells, talking to spirits, using divination all became a sin in the attempt to scare people into turning to Christianity. In short it was (and continues to be) all manipulation, Propaganda and lies.
