Mark was the son of Mary of Jerusalem (not the mother of Jesus) and Luke was a gentile physician. Neither were among Jesus disciples, although it is considered that the reference in the Gospel of Mark to a young man who ran away naked from Gethsemane when Jesus was arrested, is an oblique reference by Mark to himself.

In any case both of these Gospel writers had reliable sources close to the events they described and so, even though they were undoubtedly Christians, their sources did not include Jesus Himself but His followers.

Mark and Luke were not among the original twelve disciples who physically walked with Jesus during his ministry on Earth. However, they are believed to have been followers of Jesus and wrote about his life and teachings based on the accounts of those who did walk with him.

The only genuine historical reference to Mark is found in Paul's Epistle to Philemon, at verse 1:24. This brief salutation tells us nothing about Mark except that he was a Christian who appears to have been known to Philemon and other Christians associated with Philemon. Acts 12:12 says that Mary of Jerusalem was the mother of John Mark, but this is considered a quite dubious account. A tradition that arose in an attempt to explain the young man who ran away naked from Gethsemane (Mark 14:51-52) has no sound basis and therefore does not place Mark in Palestine at any time during the mission of Jesus. The weight of evidence is that Mark was probably never in Palestine during the lifetime of Jesus, although the account in Acts 12:12 means that it is just possible that Mark was in Palestine, even though he may never have met Jesus. New Testament scholars point out that the Gospel now known as Mark's Gospel was originally anonymous and say there is no good reason to believe that Mark really was its author.

Philemon 1:24 also contains the only genuine historical reference to Luke, because the references in Colossians 4:14 and 2 Timothy 4:11 are regarded as pseudepigraphical by most New Testament scholars. There is certainly nothing to place Luke in Palestine at any time during the mission of Jesus. Luke's Gospel was originally anonymous but scholars have shown that the main source used by its author was Mark's Gospel.

What are the things mentioned in Matthew but not in Luke?

Where did Jesus walk with some of his disciples after his resurrection?

A:In Matthew's Gospel, Jesus met the two women as they walked, but only met the disciples at a mountain in Galilee and from there sent them forth to teach all nations. In Luke's Gospel, Jesus walked with the two of them on the road to Emmaeus. Afterwards, he met the disciples at an evening meal then walked with them towards Bethany, where he ascended to heaven on the evening of the day of his resurrection. In John's Gospel, Jesus met the disciples twice at a meal in Jerusalem, then by the Sea of Galilee. It does not seem that he walked any great distance with the disciples at all.Mark's Gospel is the interesting one. It was the first New Testament gospel and originally ended at verse 16:8 with the young man telling the women that Jesus was risen and they fled in terror, telling no one. So, originally Jesus did not even meet the disciples after his burial. The Long Ending was added much later, to add some much-needed resurrection appearances and to conform as closely as possible with Matthew and Luke. He appeared in another form to the "two of them" (Mark 16:12) and we can choose to understand the two either as the two women of Matthew or the two men of Luke. He then met the disciples at a meal, more or less in line with Luke but without the walk to Bethany and the ascension to heaven, and sent them forth to preach everywhere.

Using biblical references show how Jesus care for the disabled?

In the Bible, Jesus performed numerous miracles to heal and care for the disabled. For example, in Matthew 9:1-8, Jesus healed a paralyzed man by telling him to get up and walk. In Mark 10:46-52, Jesus restored sight to a blind man named Bartimaeus. These acts demonstrate Jesus's compassion and love for those who are disabled.

The gospel of Mark in the second gospel chronologically, and he may not have been one of the 12 apostles, but he certainly had a spiritual walk with Jesus. His mothers house was the place the disciples met after Jesus' resurrection. Some believe it was her house the last supper was eaten in with Jesus and his disciples. If this is so, Mark probably did know Jesus personally while he was on earth.

Why does Peter only walk on water in Matthew's Gospel and not in Mark's Gospel?

The passage in Matthew's Gospel is considered to be an elaboration of the original in Mark's Gospel. The author of Matthew, on several occasions, sought to elevate Peter and portray him as greater than the other disciples; here it is taken for granted that it would be Peter who would be able to emulate Jesus. The passage is entirely missing from Luke's Gospel because it is part of the 'Missing Block', a series of probably thirteen pages missing from the copy of Mark's Gospel that the author of Luke relied on for his knowledge of the life and mission of Jesus.

What are the things mentioned in Luke but not in Matthew?

AnswerThe Gospels of Matthew and Luke are now known to have been based on the Gospel of Mark, with additional sayings material taken from the hypothetical 'Q' document. However, there is material in Matthew that is not in any other gospel, just as there is material in Luke that is not in any other gospel. Only Matthew has the wise men follow a star from the east to visit the baby Jesus, the flight of Mary and Joseph to Egypt with the baby Jesus, then years later the journey back towards their home in Bethlehem when, being warned in a dream, they turned aside and travelled to Nazareth in Galilee instead.Matthew's genealogy of Jesus is entirely different from that of Luke. For example, Matthew gives the father of Joseph as Jacob (Matt 1:16) and the father of Salathiel as Jechonias (Matt 1:12), while Luke gives the father of Joseph as Heli (Luke 3:23) and the father of Salathiel as Neri.Matthew 27:51-53 tells of an earthquake at the moment of the death of Jesus, that opened the graves and allowed the saints to arise and walk into Jerusalem, where they were seen by many.On the day of the resurrection, Matthew says that the two Marys came to the sepulchre when there was a great earthquake that rolled away the stone, and they saw an angel who came and sat on the stone and talked to them. Luke says that the stone was already moved aside, they went in and saw two men in shining garments.Only Matthew says that the chief priests and elders gave the guard a large bribe to say that the disciples had come and taken away the body of Jesus. In Matthew, the risen Jesus only met the disciples in a mountain in Galilee, whereas Luke only has Jesus meet them in a room in Jerusalem on the evening of his resurrection, after which he led them out towards Bethany where he was taken bodily up into heaven.Luke only has four beatitudes, while Matthew has eight.Matthew copies almost all of Mark's Gospel (some 600 of the 666 verses), but Luke does not incorporate any material from Mark 6:47 to Mark 8:27a, pages of Greek text missing from the copy of Mark's Gospel relied on by the author of Luke. This is called the 'Missing Block' and includes, in succession:· Jesus walking on the water· Jesus in the region of Gennesaret· 'clean and unclean· the faith of the Syro-Phoenician woman· the trip through Sidon and the Decapolis· the healing of the deaf and mute man· Jesus feeds the four thousand· the yeast of the Pharisees and Herod· the healing of a blind man at Bethsaida· Jesus and disciples around Caesarea Philippi
