Firstly, it needs to be understood that there are not two creation accounts but two 'parts' to the one account. The reason for this assertion will be explained below.

The common ancient practice, as evidenced in other ancient literature, was to write one main account and then to write a second part or section which expanded on the first or some aspect of it. This is precisely what we have in the creation account which spans Genesis 1 and 2. It is Archaeology, with its growing evidence of ancient literature which has furnished examples which highlight this ancient literary device.

Secondly, in relation to the two parts of the one account the divisions are these. The first part of the account is generally chronological in that it gives a summary of the total creation over the period of the six days into the seventh day of rest. This account proceeds from Genesis 1:1 to 2:4a.

The second part of the one account begins at 2:4a and deals specifically with the creation of man. It is non-chronological, which is why some people see a non-existent contradiction between the two parts. Understanding the different emphasis removes this misunderstanding. It is not that the chronology appears different it is that one part has chronology (the first part in Genesis 1:1 to 2:4a) and the other doesn't as it has a non-chronological emphasis.

Understanding that Moses is not contradicting himself but is just using an ancient literary device takes away this misunderstanding about contradiction and chronology.

Regarding Moses' authorship: It must be realized that there is far greater actual evidence for Moses being the author than there is against it. Significant archaeological discoveries totally refute the false presuppositions of the documentary theorists. Further to this, there is not one scrap of textual or historical evidence (outside of the disproved theory itself) that any of the alleged 'mystery authors' ever existed. Not one scrap. Ancient literature demonstrates that the writings collected by Moses as Genesis fit perfectly into their historical setting and do not belong into a later setting which would have been entirely unknown to these alleged later authors. It is impossible for them to have invented historical data about which they knew nothing and which has subsequently proved to be accurate. Summary:

The simple reason there appears to be two creation accounts is that this is an ancient literary usage. This usage takes a general overview and then later takes a particular part and expands upon it. There are thus not two accounts but different parts of the one account. There is thus no contradiction but there is a different emphasis in each.

Contradictions in Creation account?

If the Bible is read out of context there are probably numerous contradictions. If the Bible is read as it should be, as any piece of literature should be read, in context, there are none.Genesis 1;25-27, Humans were created after the animals.Genesis 2:18-19, Humans were created before the Animals.Genesis 1:27, Man and woman was created at the same time.Genesis 2;18-22, Man was created first then the woman.Firstly, it needs to be understood that there are not two creation accounts but two 'parts' to the one account. The reason for this assertion will be explained below. This is a common ancient practice, as evidenced in other ancient literature, to write one main account and then to write a second part or section which expanded on the first or some aspect of it. This is precisely what we have in the creation account which spans Genesis 1 and 2. It is archaeology, with its growing evidence of ancient literature which has furnished examples which highlight this ancient literary device.Secondly, in relation to the two parts of the one account the divisions are these. The first part of the account is generally chronological in that it gives a summary of the total creation over the period of the six days into the seventh day of rest. This account proceeds from Genesis 1:1 to 2:4a.The second part of the one account begins at 2:4a and deals specifically with the creation of man. It is non-chronological, which is why some people see a non-existent contradiction between the two parts. Understanding the different emphasis removes this misunderstanding. So, in relation to the timing of the creation of man and the animals the account has this to say. Man was created before the animals as indicated by the chronology in Genesis 1. The reference in the latter part has nothing whatsoever to do with chronology and so is not at all stating that man was made before the animals. Man is the focus of the account and God brought the animals to man, the very animals He had previously created. There is no reference to chronology in Genesis 2 (at least in the issue of man and animal creation) and so no judgment can be made that animals were made after man. What is being described is the action of man realizing the animals were not suitable as a help 'meet' for him.Similarly, there is no contradiction about the creation of man and woman. The reference in Genesis 1 is to do with the creation of man as male and female over against the rest of the creation. Man (as male and female) was created last. There is no detail given about the specific creation of man and woman and so no judgment can be made that they were 'made at the same time', except to conclude that they were certainly both made after the animals. The focus of Genesis 2:4a onwards is man and his creation and it is thus this section which makes it quite clear that man was made before woman.Summary:The simple reason there appears to be two creation accounts is that this is an ancient literary usage. This usage takes a general overview and then later takes a particular part and expands upon it. There are thus not two accounts but different parts of the one account. Nor are there any contradictions between the two parts of the one account rightly understood.

What is the message of the 2 accounts of creation found in the book of Genesis?

The message of the two accounts of creation in the book of Genesis is that God created the world and everything in it. The first account emphasizes God's power and majesty in creating the universe in six days, while the second account focuses more on the intimacy of God's relationship with humanity and the special creation of Adam and Eve. Together, these accounts teach that God is the ultimate creator and sustainer of all life.

Where can you find the Muslim creation story?

The creation story is mentioned in various places in the Qur'an. Some say the Qur'an confirms the Big Bang theory of the Universe because it says: "Do they not see that the Universe was one piece of matter, and that God exploded it apart"? The Muslim creation story is based on the accounts in the Book of Genesis, the first book of the Hebrew and Christian Bibles. There are fragmentary references to this in the Quran but, since the Quran is not a simple narrative, a better overview can be obtained by reading Genesis 1:1-2:4a (the first cration story) and Genesis 2:4b-25 (the second creation story) and understanding that all three religions harmonise these as if they were a single account. Islam does have some different interpretations of these texts, particularly in the story about the forbidden fruit in Genesis chapter 3, so it will be necessary to return to Islamic sources for an understanding of these differences.

What is genesis 1?

Genesis 1 is the first chapter in the Book of Genesis in the Bible, which describes the creation of the world by God in six days. It covers the creation of light, sky, land, plants, animals, and humans, with God resting on the seventh day, establishing the concept of the Sabbath.

What does genesis chapter 2 mean?

In Genesis chapter 2, it describes the creation of man and woman, the Garden of Eden, and God's command to not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It establishes the close relationship between God and humanity, as well as the consequences of disobedience.

Genesis 1 is the broad outline and Genesis 2 fills in details where would Genesis 2 best fit into Genesis 1?

More correctly, Genesis 1 through to 2:4a is a general outline of the whole creation and the rest deals with the creation of man and his position over creation and the relationship between man and woman. Thus the detail which is in the second section deals with and enlarges upon the creation of man mentioned in a general sense in Genesis 1. This is in line with known ancient practice from other ancient writings. So, if one is trying to fit Genesis 2 into Genesis 1 it belongs in the part dealing with the creation of man.

Does the Bible tell the truth about the earth?

In a biblical context, the truth about the earth refers to the two creation accounts in Genesis (Genesis 1:1-2:4a and 2:4b-25). That the two accounts are so widely different is evidence that at least one of them (and probably both) is not really true. The fact that creationists disagree so vehemently about what the accounts actually mean, is also evidence that they are not really true.

Christians believe in the Genesis account of what events?

A:There are many accounts in Genesis that Christians, to a greater or lesser extent believe in. In some cases, that belief may be based on a misunderstanding of the text, but the belief is still real. For example, there are two different stories of the creation, yet many Christians, believing that the text cannot contain contradictions, ignore the major disjunctions between the two creation stories and tend to treat the second story as the fuller, more detailed account of the creation of man (and woman) that the first story simply reported, and then believe this reinterpretation of the passages.Christians believe in the Genesis account of Noah's Flood, although there are actually two, somewhat different accounts conflated. They believe in the stories of the Tower of Babel and of the Patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It is considered an article of faith that Christians should believe the accounts to be found in the Book of Genesis.
