From an Islamic religious viewpoint, It is not possible to talk to the deceased from the living world.
Reason is that when the person dies, the person's soul goes into a state (and of deep sleep) . There is a barier between the living and the dead, called Barzakh. And according to the Quran, no dead soul or living can make any connection through this Barzakh (Barrier).

According to the Quran, only on Judgement day, we will all be resurrected and the resurrected will think that they have only slept a while or part of a day. This means that the dead souls is in a different state of sleep, and that they are not awake wanting to chat to us or amoung themselves. If the dead souls were awake and chatting with us and their fellow dead souls, then it would also mean that they are still able to change their fate concerning Judgement day. But that don't make sense! Since they will be judged according to what they did while they were living.
