Zacharias was not physically unaffected by the visit from the Angel Gabriel. He was struck mute as a sign of disbelief because he questioned the angel's message about his wife Elizabeth conceiving a child in her old age.
the Lord shut his mouth for a purpose and at the right time let it loose. When Zacharias was given a promise and when the promise was getting fulfilled the Lord knew Zacharias would open his mouth and stop or delay the blessing and plan of God getting fulfilled in his life and for the purpose of mankind, so the Lord shut his mouth and set it loose at the right time
Firstly, the angel Gabriel appeared to John's father, Zacharias, to announce that his wife, Elisabeth, would bear a son although she was old and barren. Further, this child was to be 'great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.' Luke 1:15-17. Because Zacharias did not believe the words spoken by the angel, Gabriel predicted he would be unable to speak until these things came to pass. Consequently, Zacharias was dumb until after John's birth when he publically named the baby. During the pregnancy, Gabriel also appeared to Mary, Elisabeth's cousin, to announce that she would become pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit and bear Jesus. When Mary told her cousin this news, the babe in Elisabeth's womb leaped and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost.
John Smith believed in the principle of "If any would not work, neither should he eat" as a way to instill a sense of responsibility and communal effort among the settlers in Jamestown. As far as the Bible is concerned, only two children were named and that was just before birth not at birth and they were Jesus Christ and John the Baptist. The Messenger angel Gabriel told Mary in the Gospel of Luke chapter 1, that she would have a child and that this child's name would be Immanuel (translated Savior or Jesus). The Priest in the temple named Zacharias was also told to name his son John. These are the only two children that were named directly by God that I know of from the Bible.
