Personal Freedom and Religious Tolerance
The Puritans settled in two main colonies in America: Massachusetts Bay Colony and the Plymouth Colony. These colonies were established in the early 17th century by Puritan separatists seeking religious freedom and a new way of life.
yes I think because they traded things. They also got along on the same land.I would disagree with the answer given above as historical records show that "Puritans" were a violent sect of Christianity (per se - by todays standards they would be considered terrorist). Historical documentation shows that the Puritans saw the Native Americans as "godless heathens wallowing in sin," and several documented accounts of Puritans murdering Native people as a 'governmental action.' Please remember that Puritans were responsible for: The Salem Witch Trials (for one example).March 28, 2013While some of what the previous dissenter presented is true, people have to be careful when they group all 'Puritans' into one group of Indian haters. If you remember that Rhode Island was created by Roger Williams, a Puritan Minister. Williams was on very friendly terms with the Indians, even have lived with them when he was original banished by the Boston Puritans. Williams idea was that RI should be a haven for those who wanted religious freedom. Now religious freedom wasn't Roger William's only goal. He wanted political freedom for all too. For a good accounting of the issues of that time, including the Indian Wars, you need to read "Roger William and The Creation of the American Soul" by John M. Barry.
Captain John Smith, an experienced soldier, managed to get corn the local Native Americans led by Chief Powhatan. In August 1609, 400 hundred new settlers arrived . The winter of 1609-1610 became known as the "starving time". Fighting broke out with the Native Americans.
The Puritan and Quaker movements started in England because they wanted to break away from the Church of England. These two groups came to America for religious freedom, and their movements spread further in this New World.
The two religions founded during the English Renaissance were Anglicanism, with Henry VIII establishing the Church of England in the 16th century, and Puritanism, which emerged as a reaction against the perceived corruption within the Church of England. Anglicanism became the established church in England, while Puritans sought to purify and reform it further.

Upon arriving at the new colony in "The Scarlet Letter," the Puritans built a jail and a cemetery. These structures reflected the strict and unforgiving nature of the Puritan society portrayed in the novel.

a cemetery and a jail...these two things were greatly needed because puritans believed in God and sin was a very very bad thing, so puritans wanted all sinners to be put in jail...the other, a cemetray was put there because they new everyone died...to refrain from bodies lying everywhere they needed to build a cemetray a cemetery and a jail...these two things were greatly needed because puritans believed in God and sin was a very very bad thing, so puritans wanted all sinners to be put in jail...the other, a cemetray was put there because they new everyone died...to refrain from bodies lying everywhere they needed to build a cemetray

No, a team cannot be credited with a loss without another team being credited with a win, and a team cannot be credited with a win without another team being credited with a loss. In the case of a tie, each of the two teams is credited with one half of a win and one half of a loss.
The Iliad and The Odyssey.
The Puritans were some of the earliest settlers in America. They influenced a great deal of things that we use today, they basically shaped our nation. The Puritans were the first people in America to introduce an early form of democracy. Also a Puritan named Roger Williams introduced separation of church and state. The Puritans are also responsible for our nations successful economy. They started the New England shipbuilding industry that is still prominent today. They also founded two of the best colleges in the country and among the best in the world, Harvard and Yale. This goes to show how important the Puritans were in the shaping of our nation.
