It's amazing what reptile eggs can survive. Eggs may dent in if humidity is not high enough. They will dent in close to hatching time as well.

Badly caved in eggs with no room inside are probably dead--texture will clue you in on this as well, if they become hard, dry, and light.

They may also turn a variety of nasty colors and smell bad, if they are dead.

However, some moldy reptile eggs that do not have a decay odor will go on to hatch, so don't throw anything away until you're certain beyond any shadow of a doubt that it is dead.
