Do skinks live in South Carolina?

I was pleasantly surprised to note that some do. The skink is one of the largest families of related lizards, comprising seventy five genera and six hundred species. Mostly they live on the hotter continents of Africa and the Indian subcontinent through Australia. If they do they are very rare. I moved here from NY and you smell them all the time and see them dead on the road all the time. I have yet to see a dead skunk or smell one since I have moved down here and that was 2 years ago.
