It is Spanish for a cooked meat and vegetable salad that is usually marinated. Fiambre is a traditional food from Guatemala that is eaten on November 1st and 2nd. Guatemala, like many other Catholic countries, celebrates the Day of the Dead (Día de los Difuntos) and the All Saints Day (Día de los Santos). It is a salad, served chilled, and may be made up from over 50 ingredients. Fiambre started out from the tradition in Guatemala of taking dead family members their favorite dishes to the cemeteries for the Day of the Dead. As all different families brought food to the celebrations, they became mixed, eventually mixing them together to this all-encompassing salad. Ingredients usually include numerous cold cuts and sausages, pickled baby-corn and onion, beets, pacaya flower, different cheeses, olives, chicken, and sometimes even brussels sprouts or shrimp. This dish varies from family to family, recipes traditionally passed on to younger generations. Because of this, on the Day of The Dead, it is customary to share your fiambre with other families and relatives
The cast of Fiambre - 2006 includes: Valeria Arana as Sonia Mario Lizondo as Borracho en fiesta Beatriz Webe as Marta

Many traditional foods in Guatemalan cuisine are based on Maya cuisine and prominently feature corn, chilis and beans as key ingredients. There are also foods that are commonly eaten on certain days of the week. For example, it is a popular custom to eat paches (a kind of tamale made from potatoes) on Thursday. Certain dishes are also associated with special occasions, such as fiambre for All Saints Day on November 1 and tamales, which are common around Christmas.
Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 2nd. It is a day when the veil between the living and the deceased is supposed to be thin. So people construct amazing kites with messages for the departed on their tails. They also decorate the graves and graveyard and have a celebration there. They make a traditional dish called fiambre. They also build altars in their homes and bake breads and sweets that look like bones, skulls, and coffins.
When arriving in Guatemala, its recommended to rent a car, its not really safe to get a taxi or take the bus. you can head to a little town called Antigua people mostly speak English. you can party drink get souvenirs, you can even get a hostel like $10 a day. "Tikal" its further east. but this the right place to be, Tikal is a little village were they have the Mayan ruins take lots of pics they got mini-hotel there really cheap. the down side of Guatemala is the city, your limited to doing anything its to corrupted if you want to shop i guess zona 13 things are pretty cheap there but its too ghetto. if you want to experience Guatemala; the city is just not the spot. when eating in Guatemala be really careful examine all foods ask people how it taste, make sure to try there signature dish "fiambre" its really bomb bay. don't foregt a real camara!! not a cell phone.. good luck try visting also salvador houndras or Belize.. 100

It is mostly celebrated in Mexico, but not exclusive to it: most Catholic countries have a variation of Day of the Dead, including Spain, Portugal, Philippines, as well as several countries in Central and South America.
