The bell originally was at May Company's downtown store on the original Ontario Street building. When May's opened it's first Cleveland branch store, May's On The Heights, at Cedar and Warrensville Center Road in University Heights, Ohio, it moved the bell there. It was placed in a pavilion in the corner of the parking lot. A circular top surrounded the bell and read "The May Company." It later read "Kaufman's" when that division took over the Cleveland stores. May's On The Heights/Kaufman's was torn down and replaced by University Square, but the bell remains.
