They would try to scare them back to going in to slavery and make them go back to their old masters. They used violence and harassment to scare people. They are even around today and try to portray them selves as being scary....

It's all a matter of opinion. Some Klan members are guilty of murders and other violent acts. I would say you should also be afraid of them. Some KKK members might be willing to hurt or kill someone to achieve what they stand for.
Medics treated all soldiers went hurt in battle.

Hurt the city financially and forced them to change the rules. It upset many African Americans but they made it work.
While Klan policies were never a strong suit they are not what really led to their decline. Opponents of the Klan simply hit them where it hurt. Sending individual Klan members to jail for their crimes didn't do anything to destroy the larger organization, so civil suits were filed against the organization. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_did_the_ku_klux_klans_policies_and_action_lead_to_rapid_decline_in_popularity_during_the_late_1920"
So that nobody would know who they were and they wore those sheets and caps because that's really scary to see in the middle of the night, coming out of nowhere to burn your house down while you're still in it, or to beat you up. The Ku Kux Klan did not only hurt African Americans, but remember how spiritual the African Americans were. In the night, the KKK dressed up like that could look like ghosts and that would really freak anyone out anyways!
The Ku Klux Klan did several things besides kill African Americans. They killed any person of any race besides white people. They also killed Catholics, Jews, and any other religious group member besides Protestant.
