Fasting is where you decide to spend time with God rather than eating food. It is generally a time of reflection, where you realize your dependence on Him and how dependable He is. You're putting yourself through a voluntary trial to grow closer to God.

If you have to ask about pros and cons, don't do it. The health benefits of fasting are questionable at best. It can be a stressful time, which is physiologically unhealthy, and it can mess with your metabolism, causing you to gain weight.

If you decide to fast, do it for the right reasons. Do it for God, or don't do it at all.
