Well, it depends. After you have been a legal permanent resident for five years you first file your paperwork to your local INS office. (You can file if you have been married to an American Citizen for three years.)

After your application is approved, you will be sent a appointment form. YOu will go to that appointment and be interviewed by the Immigration officer.

That officer will ask you questions and may even quiz on the basics of America government as or I have heard from sources even write out answers. It is best to take an class of some sort to help you in this area. The interview will be in English unless of certain circumstances which you should contact and ask your local INS office about that. For example, an 60+ year old man I know knows some English and qualified to have his interview in Spanish.

Some other tips are, try to have good moral character. That means, no DWIs, or jail time of any sort if you know what I mean. Dress nice as if going to church, not gangster like. First impressions, are everything.
