It is a smaller percentage than the male population because of the maternal/baby thing. Many women will sacrifice their lives as lesbians in order to marry and have children. Homosexual males will do the same to some extent, but not nearly the numbers historically as lesbians. The number for lesbian in the population I've seen range from 3-7%
