Protection of Freedom RidersDuring the first Freedom Ride, very little to nothing was done to protect the Freedom Riders. Local officials did nothing to stop the beatings and harassment. Attorney General Robert Kennedy sent an aid to attempt to calm the situation. Alabama State Highway Patrol escorted the bus from Birmingham to the Montgomery city limits, but violence broke out at the bus station; the Riders were brutally beaten without intervention from police. At that point, the Riders were protected by the State Police and National Guard and no more incidents of mob violence occurred; however, when the Riders arrived in Jackson, Mississippi, they were arrested and jailed. The protection for subsequent Freedom Riders was similar, with no local protection and spotty protection from state and federal government.
Yes. The rides stopped in Birmingham, Anniston, and Montgomery. He wasn't a rider, but he assisted the riders when they came through the stop points listed above. The Anniston stop was VERY unbelievable! You should be able to see Rev. in some of those pictures with the riders.

Robert Kennedy initially sought to stop the Freedom Rides to maintain order and avoid escalating tensions between civil rights activists and segregationist groups in the South. He was concerned about the safety of the riders and the potential for violent confrontations. However, his stance evolved as he recognized the importance of the Freedom Rides in highlighting the injustices of segregation and the federal government's obligation to enforce civil rights protections. Ultimately, he began to support the riders and took steps to ensure their safety.

They were trying to show everybody that blacks and whites were equal in a peaceful way. They didn't want to cause any harm by doing this but it ended in violence and death.
It fist started with Rosa Parks, she was part of NAACP (the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). Which sparked the northern African American people to boycott the bus, the walked every where they went, rode bikes, and maybe get a cab i possible. Because of the boycott business ir busses were going low, so the goverment agrred no more bus segregation in the north. But in the south it was different. There was a group of white and black peoples called the freedom riders, an they would sit on a bus and travel all of America (mostly to the south) to protest against bus segregation. But many of the southern people didn't like it and forced many of the buses to stop and brutalised the freedom riders regardless of race. This sent a huge message and the government put a stop to it by demolishing bus segregation.
It was a last German effort to stop the advance of the American and British forces.
