In every culture their are behavior expectations based on gender. For instance, in Scotland it is very normal for a man to wear a kilt. In the United States, if a man chose to wear a kilt (basically a plaid skirt), he would be considered extremely odd by people who are ignorant of Scottish fashion.
These expectations based on gender are called "gender norms". When someone behaves in a way outside the normal behavior, the social group responds negatively to those people. Sociologists believe that people began enforcing conformity because culture creates a group identity that helps cement groups of people together so that they can be more effective at survival.
There are two reasons why the negative response in the United States is call someone behaving outside the gender norms homosexual:
1. The issue at hand is sexual identity, and to young people who are not yet sexual the "norms" are what they relate to the term sexuality; and
2. Homosexuality is deemed a negative trait in United States culture. In cultures that consider it as normal a sexuality as heterosexuality, this term is not used to insult people because they would find no insult in it. Imagine if someone attempted to insult you by calling you "Blue Eyes" or "Left Handed". In our culture we would think they are ridiculous because neither having blue eyes or being left-handed are negative traits.
Lesbians are not mean. But some people are mean.
Some tomboys are attractive. Both girls and guys can be attracted to tomboys.
Actually, no. According to astrology, Leos have a tendency to be bold and outgoing, with tendencies toward drama and theatre. While a stereotypical tomboy may be bolder than expected, in today's society, most girls, girly or otherwise, are bolder and more outgoing. SOME Leos are tomboys. But then, some of every sign turn out to be tomboys. Remember, astrological signs show more the tendency towards a behaviour than the actual acting of it, and are rarely very accurate, though there is more to it, I think, than most people believe.
Some lesbians have short hair because they want to have a more masculine appearance, and / or are rebelling against ideas of traditional feminine beauty standards. Some lesbians have short hair for the reasons many other people have short hair, such as convenience and / or they think it suits them. And finally lots of lesbians don't even have short hair, and prefer to keep it long.
This is a generalization with no truth to it. Some people are clingy and some are not.
Hell no. Some tomboys think they're weird, or even gay. Stupid, right? I think being a tomboy is a good thing.
No, that's just a stereotype. It depends on the person to be honest. Some guys feel more feminine and tend to act like girls, whereas some lesbians feel like tomboys and tend to act like men. It all really just depends on the personality of the person, nothing really at all to do with their sexuality.
some of them might be
People fear what they do not understand. There is a lot of misinformation about gays, lesbians, and bisexuals being intentionally distributed by people who feel this fear. They think that gays, bisexuals, and lesbians will "corrupt people" and that they molest and/or rape members of the same sex. Some others will use mistranslations from the Bible as an excuse to hate homosexuals, but there arguments don't hold up under close scrutiny. Gays, bisexuals, and lesbians are just normal people with different tastes.
The only time a tomboy is a wannabe is when she really isn't a tomboy at all.
Some are and some aren't, just like straight people.
Some women are lesbians in exactly the same way that some women are straight.
