It's certainly not just the USA and it's not the "nuclear power" their concerned about, it's the by-products of making nuclear power that can be made into nuclear bombs and it's just "certain" country's that may use the nuclear plants to make nuclear bombs or to sell the Uranium to other country's that would make bombs. It would be an easy way for those country's to make easy money. And you can bet that money wouldn't make it to the people of the country that sold it.
Think about it a minute, would you like your country's enemy to have access to those ingredients and not yours?
It takes a lot of knowledge and responsibly, to the world in genera,l for a country to have nuclear power and let alone the safety aspects of it. Almost every country has had minor or massive accidents with nuclear power. Just look at Japan now, theirs was considered one of the safest nuclear plants in the world.
As of now, several countries have banned nuclear power, including Italy, which decided to phase it out after a referendum in 1987. Other nations, like Austria and Luxembourg, have also established legal bans on nuclear energy. While the exact number can vary with changes in policy, the majority of countries have not adopted such bans, and a number continue to utilize or develop nuclear energy.
There are currently (year 2013) 31 countries having nuclear power reactors. The rest are not having nuclear power.
The same reason as the other countries that have nuclear power plans. Firstly to show off power. The other reason : Fear. Not even for energy generation, nuclear capability is justified due to the high risk that nuclear power plants represent.
The countries that produce the most nuclear power are the United States, France, and China. These countries have a high number of nuclear reactors and significant investments in nuclear power infrastructure.
In the US, and in many other countries, anyone who uses electricity
Countries that get the majority of their power from nuclear energy include France, which has one of the highest proportions of nuclear power in its energy mix, as well as countries like Slovakia, Hungary, and Ukraine. These countries rely significantly on nuclear energy to meet their electricity needs.
There is a small reactor at Sydney used to produce radioisotopes. No power reactors.

The United States uses more nuclear power than any other country, around 20 percent of the power in the United States is created via nuclear power. Other countries that use nuclear power include France, Russia, and Japan. These countries all create more energy via nuclear power percentage wise, however none create nearly as many total Kilowatt hours as the United States.
Why should India be any different to other countries?
Because it is there.
The countries known to have nuclear weapons are: United States Russia United Kingdom France China India Pakistan North Korea Israel Germany, Italy, Japan and South Africa have the capability of building nuclear weapons but have not done so. Canada once had nuclear weapons, but has dismantled its weapons and permanetly deacitvated its nuclear weapons program. So far it is the only country to do so.
