Population can decrease by a huge disease for example loads of people died from small pox. But such a disease is very uncommon as we have many vaccination's.

Also if nuclear war starts huge amounts of people will die.

A population can decrease in size due to factors such as high mortality rates, limited resources, disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and human-caused factors like pollution or habitat destruction. If the number of deaths and emigration outpaces births and Immigration, the population will decline.

What are the four processes that determine population growth?

The four processes that determine population growth are birth rate, death rate, immigration, and emigration. Birth rate and immigration increase population size, while death rate and emigration decrease population size. These processes collectively determine whether a population grows, shrinks, or remains stable over time.

True or false If a prey population decreases the population of its predator probably will decrease as well?

True. A decrease in prey population can lead to a decrease in the predator population due to reduced food availability. The predator population relies on the prey as a food source, so a decline in prey numbers can impact the predator population size.

Population growth will change if the largest of a population is in its post reproductive years?

If the largest segment of a population is in its post-reproductive years, this can lead to a decrease in population growth as there are fewer individuals contributing to reproduction. This can result in a decline in the overall population size over time unless offset by immigration or increase in birth rates among younger individuals.

What happens to the predator population when the prey populations decreases?

The predator population may also decrease due to a decrease in available food source, leading to increased competition among predators. This could result in some predators migrating to find new prey or population decline due to lack of resources. Ultimately, the predator population may be negatively impacted by a decrease in the prey population.

How an increase in population density allows disease to have a greater influence in regulating population size?

An increase in population density can lead to easier transmission of diseases due to closer proximity between individuals. This can result in higher rates of infection and transmission within the population, ultimately leading to increased mortality rates and a decrease in population size as the disease spreads more easily in crowded areas.

What is RNA gene drift?

gene drift is when a population experiences a decrease in variation and population size.

What is the factor most likely to result in a decrease in the size of a specific population is?

An increase in predation pressure or a decrease in food availability are factors most likely to result in a decrease in the size of a specific population. These factors can lead to increased mortality rates and reduced reproductive success, ultimately causing the population to decline in numbers.

Does the population size increase or decrease at higher trophic levels in the pyramid of numbers of an ecosystem consisting of a tree insects (that are herbivores) and birds feeding on the insects?

Population sizes decrease at higher trophic levels. If they increased the insects population would decrease meaning there would be less food available for the birds so their population size would then decrease. Look at the relationships between predator and prey species for more information

Why is it possible for a population with a high birth rate to decrease in size?

I dont think its possible for the population to decrease because if people keep on having babies the population is just going to grow larger than what it was before.

What is the relationship between the size of the predator population and the size of the prey population?

Let's put it this way. Say you have a killerwhale and a penguin. Killerwhales are major predators to penguins. Now, say the killerwhale population increases. The penguins would be eaten more by the killerwhales, then causing a population decrease for the penguins. If the population decreases, they're won't be enough penguins, and they most likely will become extinct, as well as causing a population decrease for the killerwhales as well. Whereas, vis versa, they're were a killerwhale population decrease. The penguins would be less hunted, therefore, creating a population increase for the penguins.
