To some extent, I believe it's not so far from the truth.
Rich people do not "need" slaves. Historically, some wealthy individuals may have used slaves for economic and social gain, but this practice is unethical and illegal in most modern societies. Owning slaves goes against basic human rights and principles of equality.
Where Slaves in the south worked in all of the following EXCEPT gold mines.
they probably weren't just like different people exist now, they existed then not all slaves were beat, some were just enslaved, some were "house" slaves & treated as "help" is treated nowadays. Some were probably beat daily. I wonder how the slaves in Africa are treated today
Two types of slaves in ancient Rome were household slaves who worked in the homes of their master, performing domestic duties, and agricultural slaves who worked in the fields and farms belonging to their master.
Because during the triangular slave trade most slaves were imported for the north western coast of Africa, also known as "the gold coast" due to the huge amount of profit that slave trade made. There were white and Asian slaves in the US not just African during that time period. African tribes captured slaves from warring tribes and sold them to America. The ones not sold were killed off. All races of the world were slaves at one point in time; this can be shown throughout the Roman Empire. Also Indians(not "American" Indians) were the highest populous that were slaves in the whole world All ethnicities have been enslaved, not just black Africans.
At some point all 13 colonies had slaves. They were not just owned by rich farmers. Even working class people in the Northern colonies owned slaves.

The answer is quiet simple if you think about it in the colonial times, there were slaves and taxes and jobs that needed to be payed or finished.the rich had enough money to pay for the taxes while the poor could not.the rich had slaves do the chores around the house,in the fields. The poor has to do everything all by themselves.
The slaves made them feel rich, and powerful!
First there were no rich slaves. A slave is a person owned by another person. They are property. So the rich used the slave to serve their needs.
