Chicago city borders are very irregular. The most definite border is the Eastern which is Lake Michigan. Not surprisingly, O'Hare International Airport is within the borders of Chicago. Although many think it is connected to the city by the Kennedy Expressway, it is actually connected by a small strip of land that runs along Foster Avenue. The strip was ceded to the City of Chicago by Rosemont in exchange for Lake Michigan water service, allowing the city to annex the O'Hare land.

By looking at the maps for the communities along the borders of the city, you can discern the actual border areas.
