After Congress passed the Federal Aid Highway Act (FAHA) of 1956, Dwight David Eisenhower signed the bill into law. Hawaii actually has THREE "interstates": H1, H2, and H3, which connect vital military bases on the island of Oahu.

Oddly, Alaska does NOT have a highway that is considered to be part of the interstate highway system.

How many interstate highways does Hawaii have?

Technically, none- since the term Interstate means a road that goes to other states- and since Hawai'i is a group of islands, no roads go out of Hawai'i. It is several thousand miles to another state. But there are 4 expressways on the Island of Oahu that are designated H-1 thru H-4, they were funded by the Interstate Highway program.
