Thanksgiving is not a Christian holiday like Easter or Christmas. An overall perspective does not, therefore, exist in Christian theology or doctrine. Multiple opinions are held by individual Christians regarding Thanksgiving (and countless other topics), but that does not comprise a Christian perspective.

There were, in fact, more than one Thanksgiving tradition in the years prior to Abraham Lincoln issuing the proclamation that made Thanksgiving a national holiday. Lincoln's justification for a special day of thanksgiving was that the US had been especially blessed by God in all respects, but greed and self interest had squandered much of that blessing and lead the country into a bloody civil war. He felt it was therefore only right that a day should be set aside to reflect on God's blessings and offer up appropriate thanks. Lincoln stated all of this much more eloquently.

Christians have no problem with Thanksgiving because the origin of the day is to give thanks to God for all he has done for us. Neither do Jewish people hold Thanksgiving for anything else but to give thanks. I don't know what else to add except maybe we should give thanks to the Lord every day and not limit to just one day a year. Also thanksgiving is the most traveled holiday surpassing even Christmas so families are gathered together to enforce the need for having family.

Thanksgiving in 1992 was on Thursday, November 26. Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday in November. The following day in the United States is designated as Black Friday, the official start of the holiday shopping season.

The American Thanksgiving is an American holiday, giving thanks for all we have as Americans. Historically it represents the feast between the English Pilgrim emigrants and the American Indians in the new England area of north east United states in the late 1600s. The story goes that the Indians taught the pilgrims how to farm on the new land and the Pilgrims taught the Indians how to build better shelter. They exchanged food and many ideas at this feast. The main course was turkey.

There is no way of knowing exactly what was served at the First Thanksgiving, but it was likely they did not eat creamy mashed potatoes, pumpkin pies, or cranberry sauces.

Both the United States and Canada have Thanksgiving holidays, though they are different. Both are located on the continent of North America, but you can't really say the whole North America celebrates the same holiday.

First off there was no meal at a first Thanksgiving like most American's have come to believe....Nor did they eat wild turkey....There meal would of been things they grew and harvested and some wild game, could it have been turkey ? maybe but chances are it was either deer are phesants

Generally, Thanksgiving is celebrated by getting together with family and eating a large meal together. Often, it is a home-cooked meal of turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, other foods, and pumpkin pie and other desserts. Some may watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and/or football on T.V., and others might skip the home cooking and go out to a restaurant to eat.

In any case, Thanksgiving is usually a day to get together with family and to give thanks.

Both the United States and Canada celebrate what is called "Thanksgiving Day." However the name similarity, the dates of and meanings behind both country's celebrations are different.

I just read on this site that the rule of thumb is 2 persons less than the number of pounds of turkey. As an example a 14 lb Turkey should feed 12 people. To verify this answer enter the question: How many people will a 15 lb turkey feed. GMac
