A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol takes place in London during the early 1840s. The story begins at 3 pm, December 24, in the counting house of Ebenezer Scrooge and Jacob Marley. Marley died seven years ago, but Scrooge has not removed his name from the business sign. It is bitterly cold outside, and in the counting house as well because Scrooge does not want to spend money for heat. His only nephew comes in to wish him a Merry Christmas and to invite him to a Christmas party, but Scrooge refuses the invitation and gets rid of his nephew as quickly as possible.

The second mysterious sound that Scrooge hears is a clanking noise, like chains being dragged across the floor. This sound is accompanied by a voice moaning and wailing. It is the sound of the ghost of Jacob Marley, Scrooge's former business partner, who has come to warn Scrooge about his impending fate if he does not change his ways.

Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig are characters in Charles Dickens' novella "A Christmas Carol." They are Ebenezer Scrooge's former employers who are portrayed as kind, generous, and jovial individuals. The Fezziwigs also embody the spirit of Christmas by throwing a festive party for their employees.

IN both they remained very much the same. Dickens wanted to try through the story (the main plot) highlight the morel issue of the destitute, those working for very little and those who had both money and influence and the power to make the change required

The ghost of Christmas present appears a a larger than life man, wearing a robe of emerald green and a holly wreath for a hat. He carries a horn of plenty and around is waist is an empty sword scabbard used to symbolise peace. Surrounding him are a wealth of foods and Christmas fare

He was a small boy for his age. He worn hand-me-down, threadbare clothes darned up and brushed, to look seasonable. He used a little wooden crutch, and had his limbs supported by an iron frame!

Dickens creates sympathy for Scrooge by portraying his lonely and neglected childhood, his loss of love and connection with others, and his redemption journey through the visits of the spirits. Through these experiences, readers see the underlying reasons for Scrooge's cold and miserly nature, leading to a deeper understanding and compassion for his character.

The conflict in stave two of A Christmas Carol centers on Scrooge's confrontation with the Ghost of Christmas Past, who forces him to confront his painful memories and regrets from the past. One analogy in "A Christmas Carol" is comparing Scrooge's transformation to a cold, icy heart melting to reveal warmth and compassion underneath, like the thawing of winter snow to reveal new life in spring. This analogy highlights the idea of inner change and the possibility of redemption.

Bed curtains in A Christmas Carol are described as a symbol of privacy and warmth, offering a sense of security and comfort to the characters, especially Scrooge. They also serve as a physical barrier between the characters and the outside world, emphasizing the theme of isolation and disconnect from society.

The bells are those normally based in the servants hall which are connected to different rooms through the house. As Marley arrives to raise the tension Dickens adds dramatic effect by the beels ringing by some ghostly presence

The third ghost that came to visit Ebenezer Scrooge in a Christmas Carol was the Ghost of Christmas Present, if you include Marley's ghost, but if you do not include Marley, then the third (and therefore last) ghost was that of the Christmas Yet to Come, a spectral ghost whose most terrifying feature was that of his muted voice.
