A Christmas Carol

Jacob Marley serves as a supernatural warning to Scrooge, making him more of a catalyst for change in "A Christmas Carol" rather than a traditional protagonist or antagonist. He is not directly involved in the conflict between Scrooge and the other characters. He acts as a guide to help Scrooge see the error of his ways.

In "A Christmas Carol," the next morning at the office, Bob Cratchit arrives late after having crumbled under Scrooge's criticism. He is surprised by Scrooge's change in behavior, as Scrooge is now kind, joyful, and generous. Scrooge raises Bob's salary, promises to help his struggling family, and becomes a second father to Tiny Tim.

Scrooge's only living family member was his nephew, Fred. Fred was the son of Scrooge's sister, Fan.

The book never says.

Fred, in all of his conversations with anyone, never mentions his parents, only that he is the nephew of Ebenezer.

The only information we get is in the conversation between Ghost of Christmas Past and Scrooge, talking about Ebenezer's sister, Fan:

"Always a delicate creature, whom a breath might have withered. But she had a large heart. ... She died a woman ... and had, as I think, children"

"One child."

"True. Your nephew."

"Yes."

A toothpick.

Scrooge challenged Marley's Ghost with the thought that swallowing the toothpick would make the ghost disappear. When Marley shrieked in response, Scrooge finally came around to believing Marley was there.

The main problem in the story "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens is the miserly and selfish behavior of Ebenezer Scrooge. He is overcome by greed and lacks compassion for others, which causes him to be disconnected from the spirit of Christmas and isolated from those around him.

Ebenezer Scrooge's business partner's name is Jacob Marley.

Bob and his family are based so it is thought on that of Charles Dickens own young life. His father too was a clark. Bob shows us the working class family who are still poor but strive to live and make the best of what is a bad situation

Scrooge hates Christmas and humanity.

Fred his nephew visits the counting house to invite him to Christmas diner and is soon shown the door.

Two business men enter seeking charitable donation and are quick told to leave him alone

Bob his faithful clerk for wanting Christmas Day off with pay.

That night, he goes home thinks he sees the face of his dead business partner Marley in his brass doorknocker.

After a dinner, Marley's ghost arrives to tell him to change or suffer in the afterlife and warns of three more ghosts who will visit.

First is the Ghost of Christmas Past, who is an old but young man.

The ghost takes Scrooge back in time to see himself as a small sad little boy all alone at boarding school at Christmas, Then as an older boy whose sister arrives to take him home from school for good. Then as an apprentice at a Christmas party at Fezziwigs house, and as a young man whose fiancée breaks their engagement off because she knows that Scrooge only has eye for a golden idle; money.

Present time and Scrooge is forlorn by memories and starts to think that he needs to be better to the people in his life.

The Ghost of Christmas Present.

Christmas Present is at first very jovial and very like father Christmas yet Scrooge does not really know what he is of what he represents compared to Christmas Past.

Scrooge sees a many scenes of people celebrating Christmas even those with little or nothing - They move supernaturally across Britain in a time line of 12 days.

Then, the ghost takes Scrooge to visit invisibly the Cratchit family. We see the house of the poor Cratchit family, who make up in love what they lack in money. He first learns that Tiny Tim will not see another Christmas. After experiencing some other random celebratory scenes we arrive at Freds home. Fred is Scrooges nephews. Scrooge sees a really fun party at his nephew's house.

The last visitor is the terrifying Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.

Scrooge witnesses some of his business acquaintances talking very lightly about someone who died and who they care little if anything about. Scrooge and the ghost move to Old Joes' beetling shop where he witnesses, an undertaker, his house keeper and laundry lady pawn the belongings of properties stolen from a dead man whom no one appeared to care for We move to see and a dead body with no mourners.

Scrooge pleads to see someone, anyone who may care about the mans passing and is transported to a house where a husband and wife speak fearfully that their debt with him may go to someone more ruthless

He is taken to the Cratchits who are overwhelmed by the death of Tiny Tim and experiences the families' grief at losing such a young child because of illness.

Finally, to the cemetery where the Ghost shows Scrooge his own grave. Scrooge begs for another chance to change his ways and in doing so that if he is allowed to live he will change and keep Christmas in his hear always!.

Ebenezer wakes up in his own bed, it's Christmas Day. Quickly, he orders a giant turkey for the Cratchits, donates money to charity, and goes to Fred's home to ask for forgiveness and stays for a night of merriment.

On Boxing Day he opens his counting house and greets Bob Cratchit who is a full eighteen minutes late and pretends be be very annoyed to the point of seeming sacking the poor clerk. Instead he shouts Merry Christmas Bob and raises his salary. Scrooge becomes a compassionate person helping others and keeping to his oath. Still more he takes to Tiny Tim like an old uncle and ensures the sickly child is given the medical help he needs to help him live thereafter.

The only reference to a Butler(s) is in Stave one and these are in the employ of the Lord Mayor Of London. They arre not named. No other butler is mentioned.

The spirit's torch in 'A Christmas Carol' represents enlightenment and the power to shine a light on the truths of one's life. It symbolizes the ability to reveal hidden aspects of oneself and the potential for change and redemption. The torch is a guiding light that leads Scrooge towards self-awareness and transformation.

Scrooge's father sent him away to school because he saw education as a way for Scrooge to have a better future and to escape poverty. He believed that education would open doors for Scrooge to achieve success and make a better life for himself.

After each days work Scrooge would walk to an Inn he frequented. He would purchase a bowl of soup and one piece of bread at the cost of one half penny and look through his banking book for that day. He would then walk home to his home which was originally Marley's town house and which Scrooge took ownership after Marley's death and turned it in to a wine warehouse, flats and offices. He he would light his singular candle (a dip) and eat some gruel which his housekeeper left next to the meagre coal fire for him. He would then go to bed.

In the story "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, Scrooge's fate is shown to him by the Ghost of Christmas Future. Scrooge sees his own gravestone before seeing Tiny Tim's empty chair. This suggests that if Scrooge does not change his ways, he will meet the same fate as Tiny Tim - death.

He's greatful that the ghosts have all visited on the one night (Christmas Eve) and that he his still living following the Ghost Of Christmas Pasts warning

Joe had a beetling shop. Here fabrics were bought and sold having been hammered in to a course thread which was used to make clothing. It was dirty, odour-filled and contained many items from rusty door hinges to cutlery some of which was stolen and pawned through the shop. In basic a very dirty, unclean place to be.

Scrooge's miserly behavior and lack of holiday spirit made him mad at the world, causing him to be cold-hearted and indifferent to others. He was particularly angered by those who celebrated Christmas and wasted money on festivities, viewing it as frivolous and unnecessary.

In "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, there are actually four ghosts that visit Ebenezer Scrooge. These are the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (also known as the Ghost of Christmas Future), and the ghost of Jacob Marley. Each of these spirits plays a key role in helping Scrooge to reflect on his life and change his ways.

Tiny Tim uses a crutch in A Christmas Carol.

Scrooge's biggest loss in his life was the relationship he had with his fiancée, who ended their engagement because of his growing love for money and lack of compassion for others. This loss had a profound impact on Scrooge, shaping him into the bitter and miserly character he became.

The cause was born from Dickens witnessing the huge deprivation that was around him, the use of child labour by those who were the main business owners who, in a bid to make more money would only employ children in adult roles. He suffered hardship himself when his father was sent to the workhouse because he could find work having been laid off as a clark at the docks and consequently could not afford his bread bill. the effect was that using A christmas Carol as a vehicle to tell the story of the society at large, the issues being faced and the causes of the wealth being accumulated by just a few when many starved force labour laws to restrict the ace at which children were employed, made it easier for all children to access free education, brought about changes in the laws that made many bankrupt when those that owed these people money in the first instance where the actual cause
