Abigail Adams

There are two theories. The two theories are the following:

1.John Adams met Abigail when William Smith (Abigail's father), presented both Mary Smith (sister) and Abigail Smith to John Adams in a meeting.

2.Abigail Smith met John Adams in Mary's wedding.

She had two babies die at young ages and never could convince her husband to consider women rights in the constitution. She didn't like going all the required teas and dinners that were held by the First Lady. Her husband didn't get along well with Washington and was mainly ignored by him.

I don't think the term "liberal" was used when Adams was around, but no, I would say, he was not. ( In my dictionary, a liberal is a rich man who has enough money that he is immune to high taxes and want to re-distribute the wealth of the country via social programs and high taxes on the middle class- Adams was not like that.)

Abigail Adamssuffered illness, along with her daughter Nabby and her son Charles. She also went through the pain of having 3 children, Nabby Adams, Charles Adams, and John Quincy Adams. Abigail gave birth to a daughter, who was unfortunately born still. Pain of lost friends and her husbands long trips. John and Abigail Adams moved into the White House on November 1, 1800. When they moved in the plaster, made with horse and hog hairs, was still drying and the lawn was overgrown with weed.

See i am not exactaly sure,but, I do believe she gave to the needy soldjers and provide them with clothes,food, and water.

Well Samuel Adams was related to John Adams, they were cousins. John Adams was John Quincy Adams father. Therefore Samuel Adams was John Adams second cousin.

She helped expand women's rights. In the late 1700's and early 1800's women were not treated as equally as men. Her husband, John Adams, would come to her for advice on many matters. They exchanged letters with intellectual discussions on government politics. She was an advocate of married women's property rights and more opportunities for women (especially in education).

Abigail was very frail and weak as a child most likely because of many occurring illnesses that she had. Many of which could not be treated. Therefore her health got worse and worse.

If you read her letters to John she shows that she gives him a different side to many political questions and she was an early women's rights backer. She influenced his thinking as well as took care of her family. In one letter at the start of the war she questions him about what to do if the British raid their farm ( they were just outside of Boston near Concord). He responds she is to take the children and hide in the woods. She was a very strong intelligent woman who stated what she thought and often took John to task when she thought he was wrong about an issue.

She was an interesting woman. A feminist and the wife of John Adams she would often write him telling him he needed to consider rights for women when there were none. She was the mother of 6 and had two children die at young ages and when John was not there she ran the family farm outside of Boston. John Adams was often gone and many of their letters still exists and in one she asked him what she should do if the British came to their farm. He told her to take the children and hide in the woods. Her letters talk about shortages of common items and how she could watch the siege of Boston by the British. As First Lady she had various duties and was required to hold a weekly tea for ladies of husbands in congress. Martha Washington started this tradition and depending on status the tea was held on certain days. The First Lady always had a tea on Monday. It was also expected to have large state dinners. Abigail Adams was a remarkable woman who faced many things and lived through a time of uncertainty and revolution.

Yes she had 2 sisters, Mary Smith Cranch and Elizabeth Smith Shaw Pebody, and one brother, William Smith!

After she married a John she lived on the farm in Quincy , MA. She did join him in France for a time and was the First Lady to live in the White House, but they returned back to the farm when he left office.

Abigail Adams was related to King George the Third, a distant cousin of his. She was also cousin of Dorothy Quincy, wife of John Hancock.

The one thing that no doubt made the biggest change to her life was her marriage to John Adams. Had she remained single or married someone else, her life would have been quite different. in fact, she probably would have been forgotten by now.

she thought liberty was good for women so she joined the daughters of liberty and instead of fighting for rights like the other women in that group she wrote letters to the king and government.

Actualy she didn't. It is true that the dresses were long, but they weren't poofy. Mostly, they just were plain colors with lace on the cuffs, along the neckline, and on the hem of the dress.
