Adam and Eve

The account of Adam and Eve is one of the world's best known creation stories. It also serves as the basis for three major world religions: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Typical questions by contributors include the story's relationship to other religious writings, parallels with other creation stories, impacts on world art and literature, and collaboration by science.

Who was the very first person to set foot on earth?

We will never know. It does depend on "what" you deem man - Homo sapiens or Neanderthals and how you would define walk.

In all seriousness, we will never know.

If Adam and Eve were white and they were the first people on earth then where did differently colored people come from?

Adama and Eve were black and they wasnt the first peoplel on earth. Early civilization was started in Africa that is knowed as black community native land.

What year was Adam and Eve born?

There is no way to precisely identify the year in which Adam was "born" or created by God (note that Eve was an independent creation from Adam and so her birthdate would be independent of Adams; see Genesis 2:18-22).

It should be noted that the current "western" method of calculating Biblical dates centers roughly around the birth of Christ as a pivotal marker in time.

When you see an ancient date with the letters B.C. of B.C.E. preceding it this means "Before Christ" or "Before Christian Era." Although not seen as frequently modern years are followed by the letters A.D. In latin this means "Anno Domini" or roughly "in the year of our lord." Occasionally you may also see the letters C.E. which means "Christian Era." This is counting time from the same point as A.D.

Years preceding Jesus birth are counted in reverse (for example 1 B.C.E. is one year prior to Jesus birth. 2012 B.C.E. would be 2,012 years before Jesus birth; 1 AD would be one year following Jesus birth and 2012 is 2,012 years after Jesus birth). There is no zero year B.C.E or A.D.

Some estimates place Adam's creation sometime in the 4000s B.C.E. Others 3000s B.C.E. Whichever estimate you choose this means that Adam was created over 6,000 years ago.

Adam and Eve had two sons Cain Abel Cain killed Abel then went on to marry and have children Who was his wife?

The bible mentions Seth, but not all the others. He either married a sister or a close relative.

How old was Adam and Eve when Cain was born?

Answer 1:

The Bible doesn't say specifically, but we can guess approximately ..

Adam was created full grown, quite a while before Eve, as he had the assignment of caring for the HUGE garden in Eden and naming all the animals before she arrived (Genesis 2:18-20)

After he'd done this, God created Eve, full grown, from Adam's rib(Genesis 2:21-23)

Their first son was Cain, and then came Able(Genesis 4:1&2)

When Cain killed Able, they were old enough to be herding sheep and cultivating the ground.(Genesis 4:2&3)

Sometime after Able's death, Eve had Seth (Genesis 4:25)

It appears that Adam was about 130 years old when he had Seth (Genesis 5:3-5),

so he was obviously quite a bit younger when he'd had Cain.

People lived much longer back then, when they were closer to perfection.

Mankind was created perfect, to live forever, but this endless life was contingent on their choosing to be obedient to God (Genesis 2:15-17). They had free will.

When Adam and Eve rebelled against their creator, they began to die, as promised.(Romans 5:12)

As we've gotten further and further from perfection, and more and more imperfect, our lives have gotten shorter.

Additional response------------------------------------------------------

This explanation of shorter lifespans is a good one but there is more to the explanation. We see after the flood when humanity is bottle-necked through Noah's descendants that the lifespans drop dramatically. The great deluge removed the upper firmament, and the water above it, which filtered out much of the Sun's harmful UV rays. The removal of that firmament and its water changed the universal tropical climate of the earth into what it is today.

Before the flood there was a greenhouse environment which allowed the whole earth to be tropical paradise including the north and south poles. After the flood there is much less protection from the Sun's UV rays, north and south polar caps freeze, regions near the equator become intensely hot. The dramatic shift from universal tropic climate to regions of extreme heat and extreme cold shortened our lifespans.

Imagine the whole earth a tropical paradise where plants could grow anywhere in places like Siberia, Alaska, and the polar caps. After the flood plant life would only be able to thrive in the right climates in certain regions and during certain seasons of the year. This scarcity of plant life would also explain why God permitted Noah's family to use animal flesh as meat instead of a purely vegetarian diet.

Answer 2:

The above answer was well done and nicely prepared. I just had to correct one tiny detail which can in turn change the validity of the entire beautiful answer the responder laid down.

"Adam was created full grown, quite a while before Eve, as he had the assignment of caring for the HUGE garden in Eden and naming all the animals before she arrived"

The first part is true that Adam was created a fully-grown man but Eve was not created quite a while after Adam. Or that depends on what the author meant by quite a while. The entire creation of "man" or "men" as in human beings was done before the seventh literal day. This simply means Eve was created on the very same day as Adam and not so long after he named all the animals because it was before sunset. Refer to the same chapter the author mentioned: Genesis 2.

I loved the respond he gave because it is true the Bible is silent about the age or how long it took them from creation before they had children or the first child. But given the very fact that God said, "be fruitful and multiply", we can assume that Eve just like the Eves of these Earth or generation; she was ovulating monthly or twice a month as some healthy women do.

Basically every month a woman will release an egg to be fertilized by the man's seed to make a baby. Its very much possible that Eve could have fallen pregnant the very same year she was created since she was created fully-grown too and ready to make babies. So, Adam and Eve could have been two years old or little older when their first-born came into the world.

This also brings an important question as to why Seth (after 130 years of their existence) was just a replacement of Abel, the one murdered by his brother Cain because of jealousy. And the Bible makes it sound like he was the third born, after these many years. It's also very possible that Seth was not the third born in the family but just the third son.

Maybe, and mind you this is all assumption; maybe only daughters were just born within these 130 years of their existence before Seth. Or it could be that it took a longer time for kids in those days to be fully developed into adults. The Bible mentions that: "...for the child shall die an hundred years" Isaiah 65:20. Meaning the childhood will last for a longer period of hundred Earthly years in Heaven or in the new Earth.

So it could be that Cain and Abel grew a little slower since humans were living almost a thousand years. My guess is that they were in no hurry to grow since they were living longer. Parents sort of enjoyed parenthood for a longer period. So that can support a theory that says Adam and Eve could have been two years old when they had Cain and his brother few years later but it took a long time for them to leave their childhood. No wonder Seth was the third son. At least that's what we get from Genesis chapter 4

Were Adam and Eve created in Africa?

I believe the most common held view is that Adam and eve were white. The ancient translations of the bible in Hebrew describe Adam as being ruddy, to show blood in the face, i.e. to blush or turn rosy. Blood only appear in white peoples faces because of their light skin tone. Adam "to show blood in the face" (the ability to blush) certainly indicates that Adam, and the race which came forth from Adam were white.

Answer: No, Adam and Eve were not Africans; they were black, but they are not simply the same like many are taught. They were of darker skin tones, but did not come from Africa.

Who were the first people to sin on earth and what sin did they do?

Adam and Eve were the first to sin. They ate from the tree of life and knowledge, which God had told them not to do. So the first sin was disobedience of God.

Answer:

God's Word reveals to man the "definition of sin" as: "...the transgression of the law" [I John 3:4].

While there are many laws recorded by God in the Bible... Paul's inspirational elaboration pinpoints which "law transgressed" John means:

"...I had not known sin, but BY the law: for I had not known LUST, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet." (Rom.7:7)

"Thou shalt not covet" is one of the "Ten Commandments." These are the ten laws, which [according to God] when broken [or transgressed] raises one's consciousness to the reality and penalty of sin. It's disregard for our Creator's Authority... selfishness... lack of concern for the well-being of others... disrespect for others... the overall general abscence of outgoing love for others [as opposed to "inward-directed" love of self].

By God's definition, then... Adam and Eve did what all of their children have been doing since -- breaking God's Commandments [sinning].

Their Creator commanded them to obey Him: they didn't "honor their parent."

"Thou shalt have no other gods before Me" -- they chose "that old Serpent" [see Rev.12:9] above their Creator to worship and obey.

"Thou shalt not steal" -- they took what was not theirs.

They lusted after, coveted and worshiped the object they were told was not theirs.

They denied responsibility for it [bore false witness], later... trying to accuse others. Adam indirectly accused God of sin by blaming Him for giving him Eve: "...The woman whom thou gavest me, SHE gave me of the tree..." (Gen.3:12).

Eve sought to deflect any responsibility by blaming "that old Serpent": "...The Serpent beguiled me..." (verse 13).

Any one of the transgressions of these laws by itself brought sin into the lives of men... as James tells us:

"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For He that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill [should be 'murder' - see Matt.19:18. God allows the 'killing' of animals for food, and the 'killing' of murderers... which is not 'murder' in God's eyes, in spite of what men say]. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill [murder], thou art become a transgressor of the law." (James 2:10-11)

In other words... Adam and Eve did nothing different from what all men have done to this very day. They "sinned" -- "broke the Ten Commandments." They just did it, first.

How many children did Cain have?

Answer : Adam had three wives. The first was Lilith who was banished when she wouldn't obey Adam, the second is not named. She was built from one of Adam's ribs, and Adam witnessed the entire process of her being built. This so grossed him out that he could bring himself to get with her, so Yahweh, uh, destroyed her. The third was Eve.

Consider:

According to the Bible, his only wife was Eve (Chava). The others are legend and/or fantasy. Other Answer According to the Qur'an Adam had one wife, she was Hawa ( Eve ). The others were invented to account for certain discrepancies in Genesis.

Why was the creation of Adam made?

To give God a friend. He needed someone to love him, worship him, and stand by his side, but now over 2/3s of the world doesn`t believe in him or doesn`t have a religion.

When Cain slew Able god banished him to the land of nod he took a wife who was she and where did she come from since Adam and Eve were the only people in the garden?

Adam and Eve had other children in addition to Cain and Able. It is believed that at first the brothers married their sisters because the human race was pure at that time and no genetic problems existed. Adam and Eve only had children once they were banished from the Garden of Eden.

or another story is:

On the 7 days that God refurbished the earth, it was on the 6th day that God created man and woman, and told them to go be fruitful and multiply. Then the 7th day He rested. On the 8th day He formed Adam, a specific guy to keep the grounds of the garden of eden, and of course, formed Eve to be with him as a wife. These are the first Jewish people or Hebrews, God's chosen people. So when Cain was thrown out, he went to the city of Nod which was built by the folks of that 6th day creation - many peoples of all the races.

But all that should'nt matter now we are all God's choosen people because Noah is a decendent of Seth (Adam & Eves son) and after the flood, only us, the Choosen People are left.

What is the first sin of Adam and Eve?

Adam and Eve were not born into sin. They were the first sinners, and their original sin was recorded in Genesis. Cain, however, was born after sin already existed in the world. He was born sinful, even before he could reason on his own. He was born into a sinful world. His first sin was not recorded in the Bible. Just as every human in current day times has no way of knowing what their very first sin was, Cain didn't know either. It could've been something as simple as disobeying his parents, but we will never really know.

How many years did Adam and Eve live?

Adam and Eve were created, not born.

basing on Geneological narration of the Bible, Adam and Eve were created about six thousand years ago, give or take several (tens or hundreds) years .

How was Adam and Eve created?

The Question asks: "When was 'ADAM and EVE' created?"
There is no reference to their children in the question.

Regarding Adam and Eve:

Different scholars have calculated different dates for the creation of Adam and Eve, but they are all in the same range, a couple of hundred years either side of 4000BC.
- 3895 BC (Dr Stephen E. Jones),
- 4004 BC (Bishop Ussher, perhaps the best-known),
- 4169 BC (Barry Setterfield)
However, it is unknown whether this dating actually marks the beginning of man from the time of the 'fall' of Adam and Eve, or whether it includes their time in the Garden of Eden following the very moment and day of their Creation.
In other words, we do not know how long they existed in Eden before they succumbed to the serpent's temptation.

What was the nature of the original sin of Adam and Eve?

Original sin is when Adam & Eve stopped trusting God, and believed a lie (originator, Satan). A lie is something that does not exist but it is believed to exist and acted upon as though it exists. It is impossible for a lie to work because it as no anchor in Reality, in that it had no occurrence. In other words, Adam & Eve stopped believing the Truth and embraced a delusion. And humanity has been doing it every since. ==========

The above answer is good if it is difficult to find a better one. So let us see if we can find it.

The notion of 'sin' in old days was closely related to serious diseases and even weaknesses. In fact, before Jesus (and perhaps till our days for some people) being a person not normal or not healthy was seen as a sinner or bearing the sins of his parents. This has helped them explain why this person has to live with weaknesses not usually found among the majority.

So it is not surprising to know that almost all who were called as sinners and met Jesus were not healthy persons.

But with time and with the progress of medicine, the connection between being ill or weak and being sinful has been totally broken, though gradually and perhaps not for all people around the world.

Based on this old view of sin, the original sin should be a sort of a weakness that all newcomers into life have them in common. Could anyone guess it?

Despite that all babies are armed with an intelligent system which will show itself as they get older, they all start their life by being ignorant. Being ignorant is indeed a real weakness which each person tries his best to cure, by searching for good and true knowledge. In this respect, Jesus saved me from 'the original sin' by showing me through his sayings and teachings all the logical answers I was looking for about what are important to know in life and myself.

Answer:

Contrary to popular modern Christian religious teaching... Adam and Eve weren't the original sinners.

"...Sin is the transgression of the law." (I John 3:4)

The breaking of God's Ten Commandments is what constitutes sin, according to God.

And according to Jesus Christ, the Almighty Creator God of the Old Testament [John 1:3 & 10]... Satan the Devil was the "originator" [father] of sin.

"...HE WAS A MURDERER FROM THE BEGINNING, and abode not in the Truth, because there is no Truth in him. When he speaketh a LIE, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and THE FATHER OF IT." (John 8:44)

A father is the progenitor or originator of something... like, a family, a nation... or a lie.

Lying, in this case, is one of the Ten Commandments, which defines what "SIN" is.

"...I had not known sin, but BY the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet." (Rom.7:7)

Satan sinned first... in the beginning before man was created. He lusted after God's throne over the universe and attempted to take it from Him. He lied to the angels under his authority and convinced them to join him in his rebellion:

"...thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven ['I will go to heaven'; sound familiar?], I will exalt my throne above the stars [angels] of God... I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH." (Isa.14:13-14)

"...And there was war in heaven..." (Rev.12:7).

That was the "original sin." Lucifer [Satan] FATHERED lust, lying, murder, profaning God's name, etc... and "chose to worship himself above God."

"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (James 2:10)

....

Possible answer.

Part of a book, 'The Jesus Christ Code", it is being advanced that the current definition of TRUTH is wrong. Human truths can lie. This paradox may in fact be well represented by the story of Adam and Eve, where they lost contact with God, and his wisdom by taking of 'truths from a tree of knowledge'.

If one examines what happened in the story. Adam and Eve took of this fruit. God comes asking 'where they are'. Adam responds, "we knew we were naked and hid". God knows something is wrong, and asks Adam, "Did you take of the tree of knowledge". Why does God know this?

Well first of all God knows where Adam and Eve are. Adam answers back with a truth, "we knew we were naked". This was true, but this truth is followed by an illogical conclusion, "we hid". How do you hide from God ?

So God knew something was seriously wrong, he is God, and he tests Adam by asking a question, and Adam fails to give God the correct answer.

Who tempted Adam in the garden?

The snake in the garden that god specifically told Adam and Eve to stay out of. The snake resembles satin.

Was Enoch the son of Seth or of Cain?

Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) says that The line of ten generations from Adam to Noah begs to be compared to the seven generations from Cain to the sons of Lamech.

............................ Adam

Adam................. Seth

Cain .................. Enos

Enoch ................ Cainan (Cain)

Irad .................... Mahalaleel (Mehujael)

Mehujael ........... Jared (Irad)

Methusael ......... Enoch (Enoch)

............................ Metheluselah (Methusael)

............................ Lamech (Lamech)

With the aid of the third column (in parentheses), we can see that the names in the second column are substantially the same as in the first column, with just a minor change of sequence. They originated with the same early mythology, but at some stage a new tradition emerged, which was subsequently brought back to enhance and add to the original tradition. Thus Enoch (Enos) is now both Seth's son and Cain's son.

When was the prophet Adam come on earth?

Adam was never ever a prophet in the old testament.

How were Adam and Eve to show their love for God?

they were to show their love to God by going fourth and multiplying (having babies) and rejoicing in the Lord (as we are to do) and not eating from the tree that God told them they should not eat the fruit off of. but they did eat it, the fruit gave them knowledge and understandig of sin and shame. im only 13, but the facts are in the Bible. just go to Genesis. :)))

Where did Adam and Eve's sons get their wives?

According to the Jewish tradition, a twin girl was born with each of Adam and Eve's sons. By the way, Adam and Eve had had a third son, Seth, in addition to Cain and Abel. Does that mean we are all born from incestuous parents, hence original sin?

Which were first Adam and Eve or dinosaurs?

"Adam and Eve" were not real. They are characters in a story. It is fiction!

Dinosaurs were real and they lived way before humans evolved from other primates.

Adam and dinosaurs were created on the same day. It wasn't until later that Eve was made.

Was Eve naked in the Garden of Eden?

They were naked before they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Once they ate from the tree they became aware of evil therefore they became aware that they were not clothed and hid.

What was the sin of Cain?

From the Hebrew scriptures, in the 4th chapter of Genesis, we read that Cain, son of Adam, murdered his brother Abel out of jealousy and was cursed by God with a two-fold penalty: first, that he would be forever homeless, without roots or family or friends; the second was that any attempt to farm or harvest would prove mostly fruitless. However, God did give him a mark/sign/warning/omen that would both identify him and also serve as a warning to anyone who would contemplate killing him.

Post-destruction Jewish scholars speculated that the first curse entailed a physical deformity of one kind or another, and Armenian & Syrian Christians interpreted the curse as black skin. In later centuries American protestants (and some European protestants), especially the Baptist tradition, used this interpretation to justify segregation, exclusion from ministry, and other racist treatment against people of African descent. The Mormon religion (Latter Day Saints) also had institutional bans against people of African descent, and in 1978 changed its doctrine.

What is meaning of EVE?

Evening., The evening before a holiday, -- from the Jewish mode of reckoning the day as beginning at sunset. not at midnight; as, Christians eve is the evening before Christmas; also, the period immediately preceding some important event.

Was Cain Adam's child?

One thought:

According to the Bible, Genesis 4:1 tells us: "Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain...." (NIV) Cain is missing from Adam's lineage because of his unfaithfulness, and he and his descendants died at the flood. Seth replaced Abel, as the faithful son, and his lineage continues through Noah (Genesis 5:3-32) to the coming of Messiah(Luke 3:36-38). No where in the Bible does it mention that Eve had intercourse or children with anyone else other than her husband, Adam. (Genesis 2:23+24)

A different thought:

Cain was Not the son of Adam. But he was the son of Eve. Genesis chapter 5 verse 3 starts the generations of Adam.Cain is not listed. Cain has his own generations line in Genesis chapter 4 verse 17. He was from the affair between Eve and the ole snake-in-the-grass, Satan. Partaking of the fruit was having sex, not an apple. Strong's Exaustive Concordance of The Bible. You definately need to get a Strong's Exaustive Concordance of the Bible. Eve did have sex with Satan! Go to my website where you can find the answeres.

You also need to get a King James 1611 version of the bible. I use The Companion Bible, 1611 King James Version, Kregel Publications, with 198 appendixes. Great Bible study Bible! Also according to Genesis chapter 2 verse 24 indicates that Adam had a father and mother. All pictures of them show they both had belly buttons and therefore had parents.

Where is Eden on Earth?

Eden is no longer on Earth. It was probably completely wiped out by the Flood.

Answer:

Many attempts have been made by Bibkical historians and religious groups to locate the garden of Eden's location on the surface of he Earth. This is usually based on the description of the rivers flowing in and out of it. Most proposals center around Sumer and the middle East. There has, however, been no archeological support for any of these locations.
