If you have a map already go to the Age of Empires II directory and is a .SNX map place it in 'scenario', unless it is a .RMS map then you need to put it under 'random'.

I run AOE II here (on XP Pro SP3) without any real problems run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode. If you run any funny monitor setup, you could get some graphics off the screen, play in windowed mode to fix that issue.

Now this is all a matter of opinion, and it also matters on which army you are the best with.

I myself am quite skilled as the Teutons and the Byzantines so I have a defensive civilization and an offensive civilization, so just let me post my strategy for the army I use as an example, the Britons (British)

They are a fairly easy army to master and are quite strong. Their use of longbow men and archers in general is second-to-none giving them a highly superior advantage over many civilizations who have to just blindly charge in at close range and try and get lucky they caught you off guard. For a basic strategy with the Britons just balance archers and swordsmen first, defend for a good period of time, then break out and destroy them.

That's an offensive strategy, so if you are an offensive civilization, your best unit would probably be a conquistador from the Spanish.

Pros:

Long-range attack

Decent armour

Use of horse enables escape

Cons:

Not very accurate at very long range

Exact speed as heavy cavalry

Just a heads up, in order to shift the Briton strategy to Spanish replace Longbows with Hand Cannoneers (keep Conquistadors minimal) and keep building Champions & Halberds

Defensive civilizations just camp out and defend, that's it.

Best unit for them is probably a good monk/teutonic knight combo for the Teutons

Pros:

Teutonic knights can stall while monks heal

Monks can convert members of attack forces to make a pincer.

These are the best units for me, but for a rock solid answer it all depends on you.

Each trigger has two things in it: condition and effect. Although triggers don't require a condition, it is usually used. Basically, if the condition part is fulfilled, the effect will then happen. Just set the settings on conditions and effects, and you got a trigger!
