He painted from 1962 till 1987. Pop Art is his era.

In the US it is often believed that Warhol invented Pop Art. He did not. It was used in Britain 5 years before Warhol.

His first famous painting was 'Campbell's Soup Cans'.

His first exhibited piece of art was 'Campbell's Soup'.

His very first painting was something he did at art school now long forgotten.

The entire collection of soup can paintings initially sold for $1,000. They were recently auctioned at Christie's for $15 million.

He didn't discover the process. Silkscreen printing was first patented in England by Samuel Simon in 1907, and before that similar processes were found to be used in China from 960--1279 AD. It was introduced to Western Europe in the 18th century but wasn't largely accepted at first. In the early 20th century, people began experimenting with different photo-reactive chemicals to use in the process though it wasn't `perfected` until the early 30s. Andy Warhol popularized the process in the 60s.

Andy Warhol was a famous artist known for painting soup cans but he did many other artistic things during his life. He made more than 60 movies with his first movie being called Sleep and it was simply a 6 hour recording of a friend sleeping. He was once shot 3 times by a woman named Valerie Solanis but he survived.

Supposedly he has four children amongst two wives. It's clearly not very well publicized because that information wasn't too easy to come by. Bill Murray is also a very private person so that could be part of the reason why this information was difficult to find.

Andy Warhol created the Marilyn Monroe pictures after she died to celebrate her status as a celebrity.

Andy Warhol used silk-screening and a line blotting technique he learned in college. While at college Andy become a famous artist because of his unusual techniques.

He uses variety.

"Marylin," by Andy Warhol is a fascinating look at the principle of variety in a single piece of art. While Warhol does not change the image of Marilyn Monroe from one frame to the next, the dramatically alters the colors. This variety of color palette forces the viewer to carefully regard and examine this otherwise uninteresting representation of the famous actress. He demands attention with the difficulty of repeating form and shape, but drastically altering color, providing variety in an otherwise exact replication of the same image.

It is believed that the first painter to use linear perspective was Polygonus, in 5th Century BC Greece. We cannot be certain because Greeks painted only on wooden boards, none of which survive. The first modern painting to depict linear perspective was Masaccio's "The Tribute Money" which was done in Florence, Italy in the early 15th Century. It depicts a new testament story.

Andy Warhol was influenced by a number of artists and also by some of his friends. He was influenced by the Abstract Expressionism movement, Jasper Johns, Leo Castelli, the Dada movement, John Cage, Philip Pearlstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Marcel Duchamp, Larry Rivers, and Frank Stella.
