Arc de Triomphe

They visit the Arc de Triomphe because it is in the heart of Paris.

I have an architects scheme drawing of the 'Arc de triomphe'. It is 18" X 25" showing extended archways on eitherside. These are half the height of the Arc with statues on top. It is labelled 'Arc de Triomphe' with the name R.Mevaille on and stamped 503 dated either dated June 1863 or 1868 its hard to tell.

They are all in a straight line - La Grande Perspective, which must be the longest urban view in any great city of the world; in one direction the road (Avenue de la Grande Armée) runs out of Paris across the Pont de Neuilly and up to La Grande Arche at La Défense; in the other direction the Avenue des Champs-Élysées runs equally straight to the Place de la Concorde, the Jardin des Tuileries, the Arc du Carrousel and the Louvre.

The Arc is a monument. There is no people living there.

The Arc de Triomphe is kind of white with a very light golden hue.

No, Napoleon gave orders to build the Arc, his coffin was carried back through the Arc with an attendance of 400,000 people in 1840, but his coffin is at the Invalids. Under the Arc is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Prices in art vary widely depending on of the artist, but also of numerous factors. Is the picture a real, original watercolor, or a litho, or a reprint of it? A reprint would be sold for just a few euros, a litho could fetch more, an original, unique watercolour would be more costly.
While we can find the name of Janicotte on the internet, a painting by him isn't going to fetch a very high price. A couple of lithos by Janicotte (including a view of the Arc de Triomphe), in good condition, can be found on the internet at a starting price of $20, with an estimate of $100 to $200. Looking to the lithos, I would say that you could find equivalent worl for less, but art price is subjective.

As the crow flies, the Arc de triomphe is 3.8 kilometres (2.35 miles) away from the Sacré-Coeur.

The tomb of the Unknown Soldier (in French: le Tombeau du Soldat Inconnu) is located at the foot of the Arc, facing the Champs-Elysées. The Tomb is listed as a national monument in itself. Although it is a very discreet and sober spot, marked mainly by the Eternal Flame, this is a place of utmost significance to all French.

In 1920 a WWI unidentified soldier was laid there to rest, in a gesture meant to honour all the soldiers who lost their live for the defence of France. The Eternal Flame is rekindled in a ceremony held everyday at 18:30.

Under the centre of the Arc de Triomphe, eastern side (facing the Champs-Elysees) is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After the First World war, when 1.5 million French soldiers died, many people had no idea where there loved ones were buried. A single anonymous corpse was chosen for State burial here, so that relatives could treat this as the grave of their husband, father or brother. On the tomb burns an eternal flame, which is ceremonially rekindled every day at 6:30pm by old soldiers.

Every year the Hippodrome de Longchamp stages the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the jewel in the crown of French racing and part of the prestigious World Series Racing Championship.

The Arc has become France's most important horse race, popular not only with the French but also with the English, who pour across the channel to watch some of the world's best horses in action. There is a great deal at stake - more prize money than any other European race, with a total of nearly €2 million shared between the first five, more than a million of which goes to the winner.

In addition to the excitement of the race, expect a wonderful display of hats and lots of champagne coolers.

I'm afraid that artist isn't famous or even known by many people, and the value of his or her artwork is just what you are happy to pay for it. Don't consider rarity as an argument to pay more, my own paintings are extremely rare but they are worth nothing.

Charles Godefroy flew under the Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile on 7 August 1919: picture on http://www.histoire-image.org/site/oeuvre/analyse.php?liste_analyse=260 The feat was not repeated until Oct. 1981 when Alain Marchand passed under the Arc de Triomphe; he was fined 5000F. 16 August 1991, a light aircraft (Mudry Cap B-10)stolen from the aeroclub at Lognes flew under the Arc and also the Eiffel Tower.

Speaking of a "real" train stations - the ones serving the major French towns -, the Louvre palace and the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel sitting in its courtyard are closer from the Gare Saint-Lazare.
Speaking of the RER network (the regional, suburban trains serving Paris), the closest station is Chatelet-les Halles. As the crow flies, it is 0.6 mile away from your destination.
Finally, from Chatelet you could board the underground system, line 1 westwards (signposted "line 1 towards La Défense") and disembark at Louvre-Rivoli, just yards away from the Arc de triomphe du Carrousel.

The US flag is never dipped under any circumstances

The bus line 30. The bus stop is around the Arc at the entrance of Wagram avenue. It takes 24 minutes in normal traffic conditions to get you to the bus stop "Anvers - Sacré-Coeur".

The Carousel triumphal arch would be the English translation. The French word carroussel indicated a circular place to train horses, which gave its name to the English carousel (a merry-go-round originally fitted with wooden horses).
