What causes a white furry tongue and sores on your gums and roof of mouth?

A white furry tongue could be a result of lack of vitamin B12 in your body.

Vitamin B12 helps cells in your body to synthesize. When there isn't enough of it in your system it may result in grooves on your tongue. These grooves collect food particles and provide the perfect environment for anaerobic respiration by bacteria in your mouth and throat. As anaerobic respiration produces alcohol it results in bad breath. Whereas, the white layer- which has the consistency of cottage cheese, settled on the surface of the tongue is simply the collection of bacteria known as Candida albicans. It is an yeast which is found in the digestive track.

A white Furry tongue could also be the result of killing oral bacteria. High consumption of tobacco, caffiene and alcohol can kill beneficial oral bacteria and allow accelerated growth of Candida albicans. Using anitbiotics can also have the same effect.

Ayurveda claims that high levels of emotional and mental state can be the cause of over growth of Candida albicans or oral yeast.

To get rid of a "white furry tongue", it is advisable to have take vitamin B12 supplements; cut down consumption of tobacco, caffeine and alcohol; exercise regularly; eat garlic; or simply ask for treatments from your local physician if you are prescribed antibiotics. Most importantly, brush your teeth, clean your tongue and find a way to relax regularly.

For immediate relief:

1. Brush your teeth

2. clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner (remember to start from the base to the tip, do not rub up and down vigorously- it will result in more grooves, allowing more bacteria to accumulate)

3. use a clean finger to apply an even layer of tooth paste.

4. leave it on for two minutes

5. gargle it out with some antibacterial mouthwash, such as listerine.

Is asthma more harmful to babies?

Babies who develop asthma are at a higher risk for respiratory problems. My son developed a respiratory virus (RSV) at the age of five months. It was sudden and we couldn't see it coming. The first warning sign of RSV is short breaths, inability to catch one's breath, eg: panting. After such an illness an infant will 90% of the time develop ashtma.

Other factors that contribute to the development of asthma are family history, living environment, and diet. Food allergies tend to set off asthma. My son is three years old now and is on an Albuterol "Quick Relief" inhaler and a Nebulizer to administer his other medicines. If you suspect your baby has asthma, get it checked out.

If when he cries for a while he starts coughing relentlessly, that is a sign. If when he is playful and is laughing alot and this leads to constant coughing, this is another sign.

Asthma is very harmful for babies if left unchecked.

Asthma is not caused by an infection. It is a chronic recurrent inflammatory condition of the lungs marked by acute bronchospasm and inflammation of the bronchi and bronchioles, causing difficulty breathing and wheezing.

While some infections (particularly viral pulmonary infections) can cause wheezing, they do not cause asthma. Most people will have no further wheezing once over their illness.

Can an attack of dizziness be an asthma attack?

Dizzy AttackHere is advice:
  • No, you can feel very dizzy whilst having an asthma attack obviously due to the restricted oxygen supply tothe brain, however unless there is a severe wheeze, accompanied by extreme discomfort and or a severe persistant struggling cough, then it is not an asthma attack. i personally suffered with childhood asthma and so i know the signs and then i used to worry about asthma as an adult, however i have now developed panic attacks which one of the main symptoms is dizziness and these were brought on through worrying about asthma! so take a break and think whether or not you could be having a mild panic attack . they are not the same thing!!!!
  • With asthma you would notice a hard time moving air out of your lungs. In some cases some wheezing and or coughing. Prolonged you can become hypoxic and therefor become dizzy. If on the other hand you are just getting dizzy with no breathing stress its most likely something very different. If you are breathing fast and deeply feeling like you cant get a full breath, maybe your heart pounding then get dizzy you are probobly suffering an anxiety attack and the light headedness is probobly from breating too much. Either way if you have a reaccuring problem you need to see a medical professional to rule out anything serious. or to ease your mind finding it is something very minor.
