Nope, sorry. Wrong kind of steroid. I've taken albuterol and proventil all my life, and regular use of either drug will neither help you gain nor lose weight. Now, they WILL give you a temporary (like 15 minute or so) rush because they increase your heart rate and open airways (and cause tremors), but you could get that just as easily from a non-steroid energy pill. Steroids in pill form like prednizone will cause the symptomatic moon-face often associated with reguar steroid use and cause you to gain weight. Not muscle, WEIGHT. Singulair also has the same side effects (though not reported or on the labels), but will also cause abdominal swelling, rapid weight gan that can't be lost through diet and exercise, pain and swelling in the back and joints.... and again I mention the rapid weight gain around the mid section, even if you're super active and have a crazy metabolism. That one's just not worth it. Other steroid treatments like clenbuterol are popular for their weight loss effects because they speed the heart up so much, but that one's not FDA approved for humans and can kill you. But honestly, most doctors won't give you the steroid pills unless your asthma's moderate to severe. I'm not sure about all of the steroids out there, but those common ones I just mentioned are prescribed most often and won't help with bulking up (unless you want a spare tire...)

Creatine is a naturally occurring chemical that will stimulate your energy and stores itself in your muscles, allowing them to drink that up for extra hydration, thus you can do more for longer periods of time, and it has a nice effect of stimulating muscle growth and development. However, some people have had the jitters and shortness of breath from the creatine stimulating them too much, sometimes triggering an asthma attack, so if your doctor gave you an emergency inhaler keep it handly while you work out. But this isn't a common side effect and even as an asthmatic you should be fine if you follow the directions on the label, drink enough water, and pay attention to your body.

I assume you mean controlling asthma with steam. I suggest you ask your doctor. I have no idea concerning the level of moisture where you now live. If you live in an area with high humidity, adding steam could increase the level of mold which would be very bad for your asthma.

On the other hand if the air is extremely dry, steam might help you.

Check on other things as well. Many asthmatics are tongue thrusters. Instead of swallowing with their tongue against the roof of their mouth, they stick their tongue out between their teeth. When they swallow they leave food in their throat instead of sending it into their stomachs. When they take their next breath, it goes into their lungs. The cat specific protein (fel d1) that people who are allergic are responding to in cats is different that the allergens that are going to be produced by ferrets or rabbits or birds (yes believe or not they produce allergens). You can be allergic to one type of allergen and not others. So you can be allergic to cats but not dogs; or you could be allergic to dogs and not ferrets, and so on. Or if you are highly allergic, you might be sensitive to all of them. I have awful seasonal allergies, and I've had asthma since I was a toddler, but I don't have an allergic reaction to cats (I don't sneeze, get stuffed up, watery eyes or itchy when they are sleeping on my head). I may have be become sensitized to cats over the years, since I've had them since I was an infant. I also recently acquired two ferrets that I don't seem to have an allergy to; but let me warn you, ferrets are not for everyone. They are adorable, but you have to really research them to decide if they are for you. I thought long and hard about getting ferrets and read about them online, and I knew that I would have to make alot accomodations for them. You have to "ferret-proof" an area of your house because they are supposed to be let out of their cages to run and play for four hours a day. If you are still interested in ferrets, I would go to a pet store that sells them and play with some of the older ferrets (sometimes allergens are more potent in older animals) and see how you react afterward (you might want to do this a few times). Or if their is a Ferret Rescue organization in your area (look online) you might be able to help them with rescued adult ferrets to see if you have a reaction (ferret allergens are also in their urine so you'd want to have some contact with that). Incidentally if you are allergic to cats but you like them, the cat breed "Siberian" produces much less fel d1 than other breeds, so some allergic people can own them without ill effects.
