What element has atomic mass of 16 and 8 neutrons?

If you had looked in the periodic table, you would have seen that the element Oxygen has an atomic mass of 16 (or more precisely 15.9994) and if you were to take that atomic mass and subtract the atomic number from it (i.e. 8) you would get a difference of 8 which is the number of neutrons it contains. In short, oxygen is that element.

An atom has 13 protons and an atomic mass of 27 How many neutrons does this atom have?

The atom in question has 13 protons, so is atomic number 13, which is Aluminium. Assuming that all of the atom's mass is formed from the protons and neutrons, and each of these have atomic mass 1, the number of neutrons is 27 - 13 = 14 neutrons. Almost all Aluminium is of this isotope.

What is the Atomic Mass of Lutetium?

Number of neutrons = Mass number - Atomic number

According to the periodic table, the "Mass number" of lutetium is 174.97, and the "Atomic number" is 71. Therefore,

Number of neutrons = 174.97 - 71 = 103.97 neutrons or approximately 104 neutrons.

Atomic mass tell about an atom?

The atomic weight (not mass) of a chemical element is the ratio between the average mass of the atoms of this element to 1/12 from the atomic mass of carbon-12.

The atomic mass is a term applied only to specific isotopes; the unit is the same as above. Is a value denoting the total mass of all the protons, neutrons, and electrons in an isotope.

The mass number tells us the number (the sum) of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom.

The atomic number, on the other hand, tells us how many protons are in the nucleus of an atom.

IUPAC publish periodically tables of atomic weights - the last edition is from 2009-2010.

For the atomic masses of isotopes the last published edition is The AME 2003 atomic mass evaluation, edited by Audi, Wapstra and Thibault.

Nonmetalic period 3 atomic mass 32?

The element with an atomic mass of 32 in period 3 of the periodic table is sulfur. It is a nonmetal with the chemical symbol S and is known for its distinct smell, pale yellow color, and role in various compounds in nature and industry.

The atomic mass of an atom consists of the mass of the?

The current definition amounts to 1/12 the mass of a carbon-12 atom. In the past (prior to 1961) it's had other definitions, sometimes depending on what field of study the author was in (for a while chemistry and physics defined it differently), so if you're dealing with historical data you've got to be careful.

Which element has the atomic mass 35.453 grams?

The element with an atomic mass of 35.453 grams is chlorine. It is a halogen gas with the chemical symbol Cl and atomic number 17.

What is the unit of atomic mass?

The unit of atomic mass is defined as 1/12 of the rest mass of the Carbon 12 atom and it is called a.u.m. or Da, read Dalton, from the name of the scientist that first introduced it.

Thus the rest mass of Ca 12 is exactly 12, while the rest mas of H is about 1.

The mass of many proteins is from 10 to 300 kDa.

Cl-35 75.8 percent and cl-37 24.3 percent what is atomic mass?

The atomic mass of chlorine can be calculated using the percentages given for Cl-35 and Cl-37. Multiply the mass of each isotope by its percentage, then add the results together to find the average atomic mass. For Cl-35 (mass 35) with 75.8% abundance and Cl-37 (mass 37) with 24.3% abundance, the atomic mass = (35 x 0.758) + (37 x 0.243) = 35.5.

Average atomic mass is closest to its most?

The average atomic mass of an element is closest to the mass number of the most abundant isotope of that element. This is because the average atomic mass takes into account the relative abundance of each isotope when calculating the overall mass.

Nitrogen has 7 protons and 7 neutrons The atomic mass of nitrogen is?

14

A proton has an atomic mass of approximately 1 AMU.

A neutron also has an atomic mass of approximately 1 AMU.

For most purposes, the atomic mass of an electron is considered to be negligible.

Without knowing the number of protons this atom contains, one cannot calculate the atomic mass of the atom.

What is the assigned atomic mass of carbon-12?

The atomic number of any carbon isotope is 6, the number of protons in the nucleus of any carbon atom, irrespective of its mass number.

Isotopes to calculate atomic mass for zinc?

I have the five isotopes of zinc, each with its percent by mass abundance and the compostition of its nucleus. Now I need to calculate the approximate atomic mass of zinc as I would find it in nature and listed on the periodic table. How do I go about doing this? in the first isotope there are 30p and 34n and the percent mass abundance is 48.89% the second isotope is 30p and 36n and 27.81% third isotope is 30p and 37n 4.11% fourth isotope is 30p and 38n and 18.57% and the fifth isotope has 30p and 40n and 0.62%.

Any help anyone can provide I would greatly appreciate!

THANKS

Best Answer - Chosen by VotersFor each isotope calculate the mass number (# protons + # neutrons) for each atom. This is its approximate atomic mas. Then calculate the average mass for all the isotopes. Covert the percentages to decimals then multiply each mass number by the decimal of the abundance and add all the terms

(64 x 0.4889) + (mass # 2 + 0.2781) + (......) + (......) + ( .....)

Does atomic number and atomic mass mean the same thing?

atomic mass and mass number are differernt because atomic mass mean mass of whole atom which mean mass of proton, neutron and electron while mass number is number of proton and neutron only.zahid ullah paf college risalpur

Atomic mass of an atom is determined by the combined masses of?

Atomic mass of an atom is determined by the combined masses of its protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons contribute most of the mass, as they are much heavier than electrons. The atomic mass is usually given in atomic mass units, where 1 unit is defined as 1/12 the mass of a carbon-12 atom.

What is larger the atomic mass or the atomic number?

The Atomic Number of an element is the number of Protons in its nucleus, that is what determines what element the atom is. The Atomic Mass is the total mass of Protons, Neutrons, and (negligable) Electrons, but that means the Atomic Mass will be larger than the Atomic Number.

The atomic mass of an atom is determined by the combined masses of its what?

The atomic mass of an atom is determined by the combined masses of its protons, neutrons, and electrons. While electrons contribute very little to the atomic mass, the protons and neutrons, found in the nucleus, account for the majority of an atom's mass.

What is the difference in atomic mass of iodine and magnesium?

Iodine is 127 and Magnesium is 24 so the difference is 103 atomic mass units.

What is the abbreviation for the atomic mass unit?

The abbreviation for atomic mass unit is amu, which stands for atomic mass unit. It is a unit of mass used to express atomic and molecular weights.

Atomic mass is the number of what in the nucleus?

Atomic mass is the sum of protons and neutrons that are present in the nucleus

While the number of protons and electrons remain constant in the neutral atom, the number of neutrons may vary within different atom species of the same element. As a result, the atomic mass for one atom may be different from another atom of the same element if the number of neutrons varies.

What is equal to atomic mass units of 1.66 X 10-27 kg?

Atomic mass unit is equal to approximately (1.66 \times 10^{-27}) kg.

If the atomic mass of an atom is 48 and the atom contains 20 protons how many neutrons does the atom contain?

If the atomic mass of the atom is 48 and it contains 20 protons, then the atom contains 28 neutrons. This can be calculated by subtracting the number of protons from the atomic mass, since the atomic mass includes both protons and neutrons.

An atom with an atomic number of 9 and a mass number of 19 would have an atomic mass of what?

To find the atomic mass, subtract the atomic number (protons) from the mass number (protons + neutrons).

Atomic mass = Mass number - Atomic number Atomic mass = 19 - 9 Atomic mass = 10amu

So, an atom with an atomic number of 9 and a mass number of 19 would have an atomic mass of 10 atomic mass units (amu).

What element has an atomic mass of 120?

The element with the atomic number 120 is theoretical and hasn't been observed. However, it does still have a systematic IUPAC placeholder name - Unbinilium (Ubn). No attempts have ever been made to create this element. If it were to be discovered, it would fit in under Radium as an Alkaline Earth Metal.
