How many autistic savants are there in the world?
The exact number of autistic savants in the world is difficult to determine, as savant syndrome is rare and often underreported. It is estimated that only about 1 in 10 individuals with autism may exhibit savant abilities, which translates to a small percentage of the overall autistic population. Given that approximately 1 in 54 individuals are diagnosed with autism, the number of autistic savants could be in the tens of thousands globally, but precise figures are not available.

When an Autistic student is pressing down too hard with a pencil you would do as you would with a child of any other neurology, it may have absolutely nothing to do with their being Autistic. As they're Autistic they may have sensory issues which can factor into this, often Autistic people prefer firm touch, in which case it would be a matter of encouraging them to be lighter in pressing down. as a teacher you do whatever is needed to encourage that child, every child will be different.
Yes. Definitely. But why hide the condition? It's nothing to be ashamed of.
What is the difference between Autism and Idiot Savant?
Autism is a class of brain disorders involving the processing of information, especially social cues. The degree of impairment differs based on the type of autism, which is why autism is often called a spectrum disorder.
Idiot savant is the pejorative and now-defunct term used for a person with savant syndrome, defined as having an extreme or excessive talent focused in one well-defined area, such as: photographic memory, large-number calculation skill, calendar calculation ability, or a near-intuitive talent or drawing or sculpting. While being autistic or mentally impaired certainly isn't a requirement for savant syndrome, they make up the majority of those who do have it; which is how the original term came about in the first place.
Stimming means self-stimulating behaviour - it is repetitive like rocking or hand-flapping.
It can be an indicator of mood, such as if an Autistic person is happy they may stim because it feels good to do so and is a way of expressing their emotions (may be easier than verbally or socially expressing excitement or happiness). Often stimming is self-calming, if you're over-stimulated by a lot of sounds or other sensations around you then stimming is a means of providing one solid form of stimulation that is in your control - for example tapping your finger on the desk gives you strong touch and sound sensation, which is stronger than the sounds around you and a regular beat.

Is putting your hands over your ears part of autism?
No, putting your hands over your ears is not part of autism or a feature of autism. Autistic people have sensory problems, meaning that they are more sensitive to sensory stimulation such as sound - an autistic person may put their hands over their ears to try to prevent themselves hearing so that their sensory issues are easier for them to cope with.
Autism spectrum disorder and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development.

What is the effect of the law on autism adults?
In many countries, those with moderate to severe autism can be classified as Mentally Incompetent - that is, not capable of making legal decisions for themselves. Thus, autistic adults may find themselves being involuntarily declared Incompetent, and be assigned a Legal Guardian to handle their affairs.
Other than that, if an autistic adult has not been declared Incompetent, there generally is no additional accommodation or restrictions placed on them by the law. Those with non-severe autism (i.e. if you have been declared mentally competent) may not use it as a valid defense in a legal case (though, it may be considered a Mitigating Factor in case of criminal conviction).
Currently, certain forms of autism do qualify one to be considered Disabled under the Americans with Disabilities Act, in the category of requiring employers to make "reasonable accommodations" to allow autistic individuals to work there.
Do you say autistic children or autism children?
You would say Autistic children.
Although person-first language is considered politically correct for most disabilities, for example 'person with Down Syndrome', with autism identity-first language is considered to be correct. Thus it is in fact 'Autistic children' and not 'children with autism' - although always respect the individuals preferred term.
Identity-first language isn't defining someone by their condition but recognizing it as part of who they are, much like you would say 'gay person' or 'African-American person'.

Can obesity in mothers lead to autism in children?
No, obesity in mothers cannot lead to autism in children. Although we don't know the exact causes of autism it is largely due to genetic factors and genetic mutation, there is some evidence to link certain environmental factors such as use of certain antidepressants with autism but it's not conclusive. There is nothing to suggest obesity in the mother would lead to autism in her child.

Why do autistic children have toileting issues?
Essentially children will know when they need to use the toilet, they will know how to physically get up and walk to the toilet, they will know how to use the toilet, and they will know the consequences of not going to the toilet when they need to - however they are missing the part that turns thought of 'I need the toilet' into action of getting up to go to the toilet. With Autism the autistic person is very much in their own mind and there is a disconnect between their world in their mind and how they interact with the physical world around them - it's difficult to find a way of bridging that gap.
Why does your autistic child not answer to his name?
Your autistic child may not recognise their name as their name. Many autistic people are disconnected from how they are percieved by others, not all Autistic people accept the name given to them as representitive of them.
