What is the meaning of baptism?
Baptism represents the forgiveness of sins.
The Greek ba′pti‧sma refers to the process of immersion, including submersion and emergence; it is derived from the verb ba′pto, meaning "dip." (Joh 13:26) In the Bible, "to baptize" is the same as "to immerse." In illustration of this, The Holy Bible, An Improved Edition, renders Romans 6:3, 4 as follows: "Or, are ye ignorant, that all we who were baptized (immersed) into Christ Jesus were baptized (immersed) into his death? We were buried therefore with him through our baptism (immersion) into his death." (See also Ro; ED.) The Greek Septuagint uses a form of the same word for "dip" at Exodus 12:22 and Leviticus 4:6. (See NW ftns.)
What is the appropriate gift for male baby christening?
Here are some good gifts for a baby's christening and here are two that are very different and unique: * 2 small silver boxes (lining inside) and one is for a piece of the baby's hair; the other one to keep baby's first tooth that has fallen out. * Most trophy shops will carry this .... it's a thin silver cylinder on delicate legs and inside is a blank certificate that the parents can fill out for births or christenings. * Silver brush and comb set. * Silver mug with the baby's name engraved on it. * Clothing is fine to give as a gift. * A nice Christening frame for the baby's picture.
Where is it mentioned in the Bible One god one faith one baptism?
Eph:4:5: One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
To answer this question we need to know what Baptism is and what Baptism does.
According to Scripture Jesus instructed His disciples to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."(Matthew Ch 28)
What is Baptism: "Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, 'Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.' Jesus answered him, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.' Nicodemus said to him, 'How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?' Jesus answered, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born anew.' The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the Spirit.' Nicodemus said to him, 'How can this be?' Jesus answered him, 'Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand this? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen; but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.'" (John Ch3)
Baptism therefore enables us to enter the Kingdom of Heaven through our spritual birth.
Like our natural birth which is accompanied by a certain amount of local custom, necessary and otherwise, a good deal of the ceremony around our spiritual birth depends on local custom. However the important thing is that we are baptised, the reason being that, according to Scripture, eternal life comes solely through the Kingdom of Heaven where God the Son, Jesus Christ, is King and the only route to God the Father. For us then the road of eternal life can begin at baptism and end up, through the power of God, hopefully in the Kingdom of God the Father where the righteous will shine like the sun.
Note 1: Entry to the Kingdom of Heaven in this way cannot be denied as we see when John the Baptist "saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruit that befits repentance." (Matthew Ch 3) and when Jesus said "Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force "(Matthew Ch 11)
Note 2: There are other ways to enter the Kingdom of Heaven e.g. 'Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.'." (Mark 10). "Not everyone who says to me 'Lord, Lord' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" (Matthew Ch 7) "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ….." (Matthew Ch 5)
Note 3: Jesus was baptised by John "for thus it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness. ..... And when Jesus was baptised, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.'" (Matthew Ch 3) thus confirming His entry into the Kingdom of Heaven and His sonship of the King of Kings.
AnswerThe answer lies in scripture. Think with me for a minute, think about all the instances you can think of in scripture (like John the baptist), now what did he do? He baptised through repentance, can an infant repent? Also since baptism is nothing more than a symbol it cannot save anyone, should a non-believer get baptised - this is known as believer's baptism.heres more from a more knowlegable source than I....

Biblical christian baptism is done in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins by immersion or fully dipping the entire body in water. Sprinkling is not baptism. Baptism is only for believers as God moves on them to believe & repent by faith. Infants are dedicated to the Lord but only baptized when they've shown that they're capable of understanding & believing.
How many times does a baby receive communion after baptism in the Greek Orthodox Church?
Usually, on the first three consecutive Sundays after the Baptism, and thereafter as often as possible. Communion is also very important for adults to receive every few weeks or more often if possible.
Can you use anything else instead of water for Baptism?
The Rite of Baptism in most Christian churches involves Holy (blessed) Water and Holy (blessed) Water. Some denominations use springs or streams, or even a bathtub filled with water--these are blessed by the clergy just before the Baptism. Full immersion (indoor or outdoor) for adult Baptism is practiced in many denominations; other denominations use a Baptismal font (especially for infant Baptism) or sprinkling of Holy Water on the person's forehead.
For example, a disabled child or bedridden adult would not be denied Baptism just because they cannot be dunked or immersed in water. The Rite of Baptism is not to exclude, but to include people into the Family of God.

Is it a good idea to baptize babies if not why.?
The bible clearly states "Believe, and be baptized."
How can a baby make a choice like that?
A. The bible cleary states that Repentance is a requirement for salvation,
the Bible states that in Matthew 3:1-2 that John the Baptist preached Repentance.
And Jesus also in Matthew 4:17 tha the Lord also Preached Repantance.
And also in the book of acts 2:38 peter the Apostle who was given the keys to the Kingdom of God also Preached Repentance as well as Baptism.
So then can a baby Repent no Because A Baby knows know sin Repentance is when somebody who is of the age of accountilbility acknowledges their sin against God and Repents, so the answer to your question should a Baby be Baptized No, it would be pointless baptism is to wash you clean of past sin and for future sins as well with continual Repentance, this is where the Scripture 1 John 1:9 comes in if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Hope this helps the Lord bless
What is necassary for baptism?
Among many religions, not much is necessary beyond 'accepting Jesus as their Savior'.
Among Jehovah's Witnesses - - much is necessary.
1) First there is an extensive & intensive Bible Study Program. This is a one-on-one, Teacher / Student program. They must learn various Bible teachings; and be able to explain them to others. They must learn some Bible scriptures; or at least how to find the scriptures needed for answering Bible questions from others. They must discard the idea of going to heaven, and learn about living right here 'on earth' forever; because Psalm 37:11 states that 'the meek' will have a different inheritance. "The meek shall inherit the earth", not heaven.
2) They must also abandon all the false teachingsthat find their origins in pagandom; like the Trinity; eternal torment in hellfire; the immortality of the soul. Those are not Bible teachings and must be abandoned and hated for what they really are.
3) They must also abandon celebrations that originate in pagandom, like Christmas / Easter / Halloween.
4) They must also end all immoral and other wrong conduct; ie pre-marital sex and other fornication; adultery; homosexuality, etc. They must stop smoking; taking drugs for pleasure. They must stop swearing and telling filthy jokes/stories. Basically they must strip off their whole old personality which is fashioned after this world around us.
5) They must learn to engage in the house-to-house preaching ministry. We provide one-on-one training in this activity. (Everyone who is a Witness has always said they'd NEVER do this work - - but now they're doing it; go figure.)
6) They will have sessions with 6 elders to see if they can answer Bible questions. Some do not qualify for baptism at this point. They will be offered more one-on-one help; and can apply for baptism at a later time.
Jehovah's Witnesses don't just baptize every Tom, Dick, & Harry off the street who might like what they hear when they first meet us.
But it's really not all as hard as it may sound to meet these requirements. Our program is made very simple. They are welcomed into a global brotherhood. It all depends on the strength of their desire to really please Jehovah God. Only God's holy spirit can make it happen; because it is really beyond any solely human achievement.
Other religions have different programs - - - or lack of programs (whichever is the case). Some religions baptize infants, so not much is necessary except to having a parent that takes you there without you knowing about it.

Of what religion are the sacraments of Baptism Confirmation and Eucharist a feature?
Baptism is a feature of all Christian religions because Jesus said that unless one is baptised with water and the Holy Spirit one cannot enter the kingdom of Heaven. Some religions have a confirmation ceremony where one is formally accepted into the faith and the ceremony of the Eucharist varies from one religion to another. The Roman Catholic observes seven sacraments: (1) Baptism (2) confession where one secretly tells the priest their sins (3) Penance which invoves 'punishment' for their sins. These days, that punishment means saying certain prayers prescribed by the priest (4) Communion Eucharist or the Mass, a bloodless sacrifice where the offerings of bread and wine become the actual body and blood of Christ (5) Confirmation, where one is officially received into the Church and takes a saint's name. (6) Marriage or Holy Orders. This sacrament is two pronged. From ancient times the Church has considered that if one does not marry, then one should seriously consider entering Holy Orders. (7) Viaticum or 'Last Rites' now more commonly called 'The Anointing of the sick' which is the last solace the Church can offer before death.
Why is a godparent needed at a catholic baptism?

Why does the Bible give four different descriptions of the baptism of Jesus?
Another answer from our community:
The baptism of Jesus is in all four of the Gospels. Why do we have four Gospel accounts? EXAMPLE If you took a photo of a building from the front that is all you would see and you would not really know what the rest of the building looked like. If you took a photo of all four sides of that building you would have a better understanding of that building. The same goes for the Gospels. Most of the time each gospel will have a slightly different story of some event. If you only read one event you don't get the complete story. If you read each account in each Gospel you will get as much of the story that God wants you to know. Sometimes quite a bit is revealed if you read all the accounts.
Why do you have to get wet clothes in baptism what's wrong with swim suit?
When you are baptised you are a new creation. You are baptised and cleansed with water. There is no need to take off your clothes as this shows humility before God. A swimsuit is sportswear and baptism is no sport.
What is your silver plated christening cup worth as scrap silver?

You were baptized as a baby Must you now be re baptized as a 75 year old adult?
If you believe that the baptism of infants is valid then no.
If you believe that baptism is required as a testimony of the new life a believer has started on following genuine repentance and acceptance of Christ as Saviour then you will realize that the sprinkling received as a baby was not in line with this definition. Therefore you remain unbaptized and you wouldn't be getting re- baptized.
Basically, you need to repent of your sins before they can be removed by God. Infants cannot do this so you are unbaptized if you "got wet" as an infant.
Further, the purpose of baptism is to place you in an obedient position for God to remove your sins. Remember, Peter told us we need to repent AND be baptized to remove our sins (Acts 2:38). Unfortunately few teach this today.
And now why delay? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord (Acts 22:16).
What is the second part of the sacrament of baptism?
Not every church have a second part to a baptism, but in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints a person is confirmed a member of the church.
Muslim baptism do they have holy water?
There is no baptism in Islam. Islam believes we are born pure but then the things that we do afterwards (our deeds) determines if we're good and bad. Christians believe in Original Sin and that's why they baptise, to wash away the sins they think everyone's born with.
