How do Asians celebrate baptism?

First, it should be noted that not all Asians are Christian. Most are not. Buddhism, Shinto, and Taoism are more common in Asia, and those religions do not have a baptism ritual. As for Asian Christians, just like American Christians, there are many different denominations. Some baptize children when they are babies, others when they are older. Some baptize by sprinkling holy water on the child and saying prayers, while others require full immersion in water, sometimes in a lake or a river. They baptize people generally the same way as westerners do.

Must one participate in the ancient Jewish practice of baptism in order to be a Christian?

Baptism is very much needed to show you have become a changed person , and believe in christ, However it is not a Jewish ritual. It is based on the Jewish ritual of the Mikveh (מקוה), but the Mikveh is quite different.

For example, If you are born into the Jewish religion, you do not need to do the Mikveh ritual. Also, The Mikveh is more than just a conversion rite. It is a used after an illness, before weddings, and after menstuation, among other things.

Why does the story of baptism lead us to believe that jesus is the son of god?

Joh 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "There is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Joh 1:30 This is the one I was talking about when I said, 'A man is coming after me, but he is greater than I am, because he existed before I was born.'

Joh 1:31 I did not know who he would be, but I came baptizing with water in order to make him known to the people of Israel."

Joh 1:32 And John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and stay on him.

Joh 1:33 I still did not know that he was the one, but God, who sent me to baptize with water, had said to me, 'You will see the Spirit come down and stay on a man; he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'

Joh 1:34 I have seen it," said John, "and I tell you that he is the Son of God."

This is Jesus' baptism as recorded in the gospel of John. John the baptist says in verse 34 "he is the son of God" he is talking about Jesus

Do you need a birth certificate for christening?

No church that I know of would require a birth certificate for christening and I know many who do not. Christening is a religious service and not a civil service or requirement. There is nothing in the bible that says a birth certificate has to be produced before one is christened (baptised). It would be like telling God that the proof of your existence according to civil law takes precedence over his knowledge of your existence.

What is the process used by Mormons for baptism?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called "Mormons") are baptized by immersion by a man who has the priesthood authority to do so. In order to be baptized, the person must have spoken with Church leaders about their faith in Jesus Christ and must be at least 8 years old. Those under age 18 must also have permission from their parents.

The baptism may be performed in any body of water deep enough to be immersed in, although many church buildings have a font where the baptism can be performed. Family and friends are welcome to attend and view the baptismal service.

  • Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting? I do.

Answer" Peter said: "...REPENT, and be baptized..." (Acts 2:38). Repentance comes first, and is the "condition" one accepts (or SHOULD be accepting) before baptism. I stress "should be," because few denominations explain themselves biblically in this area. The result is that repentance gets skipped... and people are baptized unaware of the truth about it. Repentance is changing one's ways. Turning around and going the other direction. It's being "sorry" for "doing wrong." The Bible speaks of "two kinds of sorrow." "For GODLY SORROW worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the SORROW OF THE WORLD worketh death." (II Cor.7:10) The question of baptism's "conditions," then, necessitates that it is "GODLY SORROW" that is needed for "repentance." Repentance to "salvation." That's what we're all looking for - salvation.... being SAVED FROM DEATH! As most Christians should know, the wages of sin is DEATH. So, KNOWING WHAT SIN IS is key to understanding what it is that we need to "repent of." Jesus, it is said, came to SAVE SINNERS. The Bible says: "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW." (I John 3:4) That's the Bible's definition of sin. But, what law? In the Bible are laws, statutes, ordinances... all kinds of major and minor laws and rules. Paul wrote: "What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but BY THE LAW: for I had not known LUST, except the law had said, THOU SHALT NOT COVET." (Rom.7:7) What law says, "thou shalt not covet?" Of course, it's the transgression of the Ten Commandments that defines "sin." THAT'S what one needs to "repent" of before baptism. That's the "condition." Few religions are overly concerned about teaching the Ten Commandments... yet, the transgression of them leads directly to the death from which they want saved. A person has to become aware of what God wants from His children - OBEDIENCE. God hasn't changed in five millennia. He has always demanded our obedience. God's promises to Abraham happened: "Because that Abraham OBEYED MY VOICE, and kept My charge, My Commandments, My statutes, and My laws." (Gen.26:5) God told the Israelites fresh out of Egypt: "Now therefore, if ye will OBEY MY VOICE indeed..." (Ex.19:5). Three days later, God's VOICE uttered the Ten Commandments in their very ears. (Ex.20) And of His church, Jesus says: "...the sheep hear His voice: and He calleth His own sheep by name... and the sheep follow Him: for they know His voice... other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and THEY SHALL ALL HEAR MY VOICE; and there shall be one fold..." (John 10:3-16). "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish..." (verses 27-28). The condition for baptism is "being sorry for having broken the Commandments of God" (SINNING)... and... coming up (resurrecting) out of the "watery grave" of baptism a "new person in Christ," endeavoring to no longer live "under" the law... but, to live "within" the law. "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD, and the FAITH OF JESUS." (Rev.14:12)

Does conversion to orthodoxy require re-baptism?

Baptism means dipping. It does not mean dipping in water. You have to specify what you mean to dip in. The bible says in several places that water baptism no longer applies.

Why did jesus submit to the baptism of john?

To Fulfill All Righteousness

Matthew 3:1

Jesus did not try to live outside His calling. He is greater than John. But it was John's role to baptize Him and pave the way, even according to the tradition of the Law.

Jesus submitted Himself to this baptism because it was of God, and part of His plan. Even though He is God, He came to earth as a man and followed the will of God the Father to live His calling to be exactly who God called Him to be.

Did William Branham baptize Dr DGS Dhinakaran?

Dr DGS Dhinakaran and Dr John Joseph, the twin major prophets of the land (India) were baptized in the name of Lord Jesus Christ by Paulaseer Lawrie. Bro Lawrie was baptized by William Marrion Branham in the name of Lord Jesus Christ. Paulaseer Lawrie in later years fell into deception by going beyond the doctrine of Christ and the written word. Whereas Branham, Dhinakaran and John Joseph remained faithful to Lord Jesus Christ till their home calling.

How do Christians practice the significance of baptism for both the individual and the Christian community?

they practice this by celebrating the holy eurcarist and by continously attending reconciliation in the christian community. Below: edited by toy.soldier Heres my take on it: Baptism is central to the christian belief and is performed by a deacon, minister, priest or bishop. Baptism is signifigant for the individual because it initiates them into the christian faith, introducing them to the holy spirit and giving access to other sacraments and rites such as communion, reconciliation, etc.. For the community, baptism is an event by which the others in the community witness the initiation of another adherent into their community, rather than being directly involved. I hope this answer helps and if there are any other questions i may be able to answer on Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Aboriginal Spirituality and to some extent, Judaism and Buddhism, ask me on toy.soldier@live.com.au or on 0433 968 184
