If a runner crosses the plate before the third out is called does the run score.?

The batter will need to reach 1st base safely (credited with reaching safely by hit or error) before any runs count on a play where a 3rd out is recorded. If the batter and all runners required to run advance to the next base safely, any player crossing the plate before the out will count. If all players required to run DO NOT safely advance then no runs will count even if they cross the plate before the out is recorded

(much like many rules in baseball there are several scenerios, those need to be discussed on the discussion page)

When the ball hits the batter out of the batters box how to you score it?

It is an unassisted putout given credit to the nearest fielder and the hitter is given a single when a batted ball in play hits a runner -- in this instance since the batter is the runner hit he would not get a single and since it is just out of the batters box it would just be recorded as G-2 -- or Ground-out to Catcher, whichever is your shortcut of choice for marking that

What is the baseball tag up rule?

because without one all the runners on base would be able to score on a high pop up on the infield the tag up rule is a compromise between that situation and not allowing the runners to advance at all after a ball is caught

How many feet on a little league field from home to first?

It is 60 feet from home to first on a softball field. It is the same distance between all the bases. The pitchers mound is 40 to 43 feet way depending on the level of competition. The depth of the outfield varies from field to field.

How do you score a sacrifice bunt on the score sheet?

A "sac".

Corrected answer:

This depends on the outcome of the at bat:

***if the bunt successfully advances another baserunner to the next base and the batter is out at 1st then it is a "Sac Bunt" -- no official at-bat

***if the bunt does not successfully advance the other baserunners then you score it as an out using the fielding numbers to idicate who is credited with the put out -- this is a fielders choice, the at-bat would count, no hit given

***if nobody is on base and you reach successfully to first base then you are credited with a single

How far is it between each base?

360 feet in high school college and professional baseball 240 feet in little league and softball

Why don't catchers wear batting gloves?

If they are holding on to their gloves they cannot dive palms down and road rash them, also outstretched fingers often get jammed on the base or cleated by the short stop. In the event they have to slide into the base, they stand the chance of ruining the gloves given they slide into the base using their hands. They slide head first and the gloves are expensive. I heard that some also do that to remind them not to slide head-first.

A base runner runs into a player with the ball is he out?

yes unless he is standing on the base

It is also interference.

Y-THINK-Y

These answers assume we are talking about a batted ball (not clear from the question). A runner hit by a ball thrown by a fielder is not out, unless his interference with the throw was intentional.

It is NOT interference if the ball first passes a fielder other than the pitcher. EXAMPLE: If the runner were to be running behind the fielder, and the ball went through the fielder's legs and hit the runner, the ball is live and there is no interference.

A runner hit by a fair batted ball while standing on the base is out.

Runner on third and less than two outs. The batter hits a foul fly ball that is caught. The runner tags up and scores. Does the batter get an RBI?

By rule, there are four criteria for a sacrifice fly. 1) The ball is hit to the outfield, 2) The batter is out because an outfielder made the catch or an infielder made the catch in the outfield, 3) There are less than two outs, 4) A runner already on base scores after the catch. The official scorer has the option of giving a batter a sacrifice fly in instances when all four rules are not met. For example, if the outfielder drops what appeared to be an easy fly ball, the scorer could charge the outfielder with an error and award the batter a sacrifice fly. The answer to this question is yes, the batter would be awarded an RBI.

If you hit the ball outside of the foul lines what is the ball called and what happens?

If this all takes place before the ball reaches 1st or 3rd base, you have to wait until the ball comes to rest or is touched by a defensive player. Then, if it is in fair territory at that time, it is a fair ball. If it is in foul territory at that tome, it is a foul ball.

If a fly ball hits outside the foul line beyond 1st base or 3rd base, it is a foul ball.

Is there an official definition of a 'runner's fielder's choice'?

Official Baseball Rules section 2.00 Definition of Terms: A fielders choice is the act of a fielder who handles a fair grounder and, instead of throwing to first base to put out the batter-runner, throws to another base in an attempt to put out a preceding runner.

If a pinch runner comes into a game and ends up coming around to score who gets credit for the total bases and run scored - the pinch runner or the player who reached base in the first place?

Total bases is not relevant with pinch runners. Total bases is only relevant with batters and is a statistical category used to measure a baseball player's effectiveness at the plate. So the pinch runner would be credited with 0 total bases. However, the run scored would be credited to the pinch runner.

Can you call timeouts in baseball?

If a pitch is hit does it count as a strike or a ball against a pitcher's pitch count?

I think you're asking, "if the pitcher throws a ball that is waaaay out of the strike zone, but the batter swings at it anyway, does it count as a strike?" The answer is YES - if it were a foul ball it would count as a strike, so why should it be any different if it is put into play?

Why is a batter out on a bunt on the second strike?

A bunt is typically designed to advance a base runner. It is most often employed when the infield is playing deep. As a bunt attempt increases the odds of making contact with the ball, bunts are often used by National League pitchers who aren't paid for their skill at the plate.

A sacrifice bunt designed to advance a runner from first or second base is generally laid down in the area between the mound and first base - behind the runner. A bunt designed to advance a runner from third base is generally placed between the mound and third base.

Bunts can also be attempted for a base hit. A "suicide squeeze" is one of the most exciting plays in baseball. It results when a runner on third base breaks for home on the pitch as the batter attempts a bunt. A bunt made with two strikes that rolls foul is a third strike and the batter is out. This differs from other foul balls.

How many times can a team change pitchers in a game?

Yes--there's no limit to how many players can be substituted at once. Also, in the National League (or any league where pitchers have to bat) a team can make a "double switch", which in the case of a pitcher and catcher would result in the new pitcher batting in the previous catcher's spot in the batting order, and the new catcher in the pitcher's spot (probably ninth).

What is a no trade clause in baseball?

A 'no trade clause' is a section in a player's contract that specifies the player cannot be traded to another team or specifies the teams that a player can be traded to. Some players have in their contracts that they cannot be traded. This means the player will play the entire length of the contract for that team. Some players have in their contracts that they may be traded only to certain teams. For example, a player may say he can only be traded to the Yankees, Dodgers, or Red Sox but to no other team.

If a baseball touches a fielders glove then bounces off the wall can it be caught for an out?

No, As soon as it hits anything other then a player, its a hit. For example, If it hits the bag or the wall or your glove then the wall, its a hit.

If it hits someones foot first and then its caught, its a catch

Does the runner at third run scored count when there is one out and batter hits into a double play?

No, because the third out was made on the same play. It is no different than if the batter hits a ground ball to the shortstop or any other infielder and is thrown out at first base for the third out. However, if there are two outs and there is a runner on third and the batter hits a single into left field but is thrown out at second when attempting to turn the play into a double and the runner on third makes it home before the third out at second is recorded, the run does count. Hope that isn't too confusing.
